That's quite some prejudice you've got there I can guarantee you that idiocy like that is far from limited to Gen Y. Maybe not identical actions/situations, but I am certain that some of the older generations make mistakes just as idiotic on the road. Even in that same situation, I am certain there are older people who could have made that same mistake, using the same logic, if it weren't for the fact that they have more experience with cars, and know that removing the keys can lock the wheel.
I would love to see this kind of accident by any other age group...I know its the first time I have ever heard of an accident like this...I am not sure how much of a bigger mistake that are as idiotic as removing car keys from an ignition while driving. In fact, there is nothing as stupid. Not something you do on purpose anyway.
turning the engine off was stupid. removing the keys themselves makes no sense and im not surprised it killed him. normally i notice they are some of the worst drivers on the road. i avoid people with those signs
lol what a thread, people acting asif they've never texted while driving before and saying gen y's shouldnt be on the road im sure you were driving when you were a teen. And i will agree an iphone should have been used for the add worst ****ing phone ever to msg off !!!!!!!!!!
the only time ive ever texted while driving was when ive stopped a red light, or else pulled over. even then, im careful about it. not as stupid as the people in this ad, and im sure there are plenty of people out there that do exactly what was shown in the video
Can honestly say I have never texted someone while driving. As for GEN Y's not being on the road, the stats are speaking for themselves, some of the stupidest accidents of all time are being completed by, you guessed it, gen y's. Even workcover brought out a series of adverts specifically to cover gen y's and how stupid some of them are...kin of says a lot. Come to think of it, when I see people texting while driving, it is rarely by anyone that doesn't have one of these red or green plates visible.
That particular point comes with the territory though; most people who text regularly are closer to that age than say, a middle-aged businessman. Not entirely the reason I know, but part of it at least. You said it yourself; the first time you've heard of an accident like this. Sure sounds like a perfect basis for generalising a whole generation It's an anomaly. If pulling the keys out was a common occurence, or even an uncommon one, you would have heard about it. Simply because it was an uneducated moron who happens to be of GenY, doesn't mean there aren't people this stupid in older generations. Anomalies like this appear in many data sets, and they are often discounted as being a very infrequent happening. Why should this one be the basis of an entire generation's driving skills? Tonight, I drove through an X intersection. I crossed the intersection and, doing the speedlimit, very narrowly avoided a mid-40's-looking woman running into the side of me as she merged in from the 'turn left at any time with care' lane. She was looking directly at me, and for whatever reason, determined herself to have right of way. I guess this means that ANY PERSON on their open licence automatically assumes they have right of way all the time? You can't have your cake and eat it too, Minux. You make generalisations on both inexperienced drivers of GenY, and of elderly drivers. Out of curiosity, at what point will you consider yourself to be a bad driver, or at least one who can make mistakes? You seem to have never done anything wrong on the road, even as a young driver. How low do you have to go before your high horse is only as tall as the next persons?
I have made mistakes, I have never not denied that fact, I have done many things wrong on the road, noen that are ever life threatening to myself or any other road user though As for how low do I have to go, Its a long way down from where I am sitting, so thats anyones guess. Oh and as for your middle aged woman who pulled out in front of you, i think your confusing arrogance with idiocy.
hahahahahahaha ur a funny man andrew... yeh the ad is pure ****...worst acting ever..does nothing for me, didnt stop me txtn 2day in the car...
Well, it just might surprise you to know that many of us have never even been tempted to do anything as stupid as trying to text whilst driving. Judging by your comment, it's something you're quite familiar with. When we were teens, mobile phones hadn't been invented. We still used jam tins and long bits of string.
Lmaooooooooooo I never thought there was someone that stupid.... And i also never knew taking the key out saved you 1L/100 *rolls eyes* hahahahahahaahaha, call of the thread.. If only there was a rep button haha
few things about that ad, 1 dunno if it was just me but i couldnt understand a word they were saying in the beggining, 2 since when have add's been 4 minutes long? 3 the amount of time between the first crash would have been surely enough time for the 3rd driver to see the crash, and from my memory the first 2 cars were on the left side of the road, meaning the 3rd car would have been on the wrong side of the road? correct me if im wrong
I reckon those types of ads are a way of trying to get the point across to drivers of just how quick things can happen, sure the acting was ****, the other car should've stopped in time, blah, blah, but hey take a look at our statistics, people are getting killed everyday, I have been called to fatal accidents at work and such, and believe me, it's horrible, just a split second-BANG! All over..... I havn't seen any realistic ads here in Qld like that, but Victoria used to have them. Up here we have a soft-hearted "please slow down through roadworks" crap ad but I reckon make more like that one, get some of these idiots thinking.
still better than that marijuana ad i reckon but that third car was just a joke.. maybe they should have shown the driver of the third car texting as well... or shown the driver of the third car looking at the first accident and hitting someone else! showing people the dangers of looking at accidents while driving in the same ad! what where they thinking with that third car... why didnt they instead have an aeroplane fall out of the sky and crush the car
That's the one were his driving the magna yeah? and he jumps out then gets wiped out? I think they should have used that add to tell people not to buy magna's otherwise the rest of the population will want to run you over lmao
The pot ad is basically that if you are baked and already driving it's best if you don't stop till you get home. When I was working in Goulbourn a few years back they had pot ads on the radio and the tag line was 'Pot, it mightn't kill you but it could turn you into a dick head'.
So Minux, im 19, im a "gen Y" and have never had an accident, i dont do butnouts or f**k about in my car, the only thing you would probably be unhappy about is i have 2x12' subwoofers and a pretty decent sound system, and my car is used to get me from A to B in comfort, and arriving in one piece and not being a d*ckhead on the way. there are a large percentage of "gen Y' on the road now, and the p plater bracket continues to grow as the government makes it longer and longer and longer (1 year red P, 2 years green P currently), while the baby boomers and the like get older and become the accident prone elderly. P plater's do have more accidents, because there are more P platers! its simple! its harder than in your day where your p plates were most likely 6 months or less, then an instant full licence. I do know of a lot of p platers who have had an accident, a mate got t boned going along the road, the 40 something driver of the other car FAILED TO GIVE WAY, then got out and BLAMED the p plater? what the hell? i've been told some amazing stories about things that dad and his mates used to do in cars or the accidents they had, things that amaze me and my friends, but you have decided that im the problem, and painted us all with the one brush, maybe you should get to know some of the younger population, we might just open your eyes, we're all not the idiots you keep seeing in the paper.
