it'd be easier to see things from your point of view if you weren't on the defensive straight off the bat...
I dont know if i read what you said wrong, but i imagine there would be a lot more full lisnces drivers on the road then p platers? seeing as your only on your p's til your 21 but full liscenc is forever?
if others are on the offensive.... how can i not be on the defensive? msina1, what i wrote is statistically speaking p platers are having more accidents, but there are more p platers now than there were say 15 years ago, when a p plater was that way for about 6-12 months max? (please correct me if im wrong) Now you are on your p's for 3 years, of course those stats are going to show more accidents to p platers, because its a larger % of the population who are one at one given time compared to results 10 years ago. i didnt mean it as "there are more p platers and fully licenced drivers" i hope that clears it up
Maci: what I'm trying to say is that I can see that you have a valid point, but wording it on the defensive is not going to get the point across, more that people will ignore what you say or pick a fight because you are being baited. For example, you could have left out the "maybe you should get to know some of the younger population, we might just open your eyes, we're all not the idiots you keep seeing in the paper" and still got the point home. I know p-platers cop alot of attention, but if you think about it, they always have, it's just that only in recent times that the newspapers and media have really put a stranglehold on the situation to sell copies. However I can not say anything in defence of the guy in the article Minux brought up. Some people like to work on their cars and get a greater understanding and appreciation for them by learning about their vehicle with a hands-on approach, and some like to have it serviced at a garage every time and just know that the right pedal makes it go... Put it down to ignorance i suppose? Sorry for the novel....
i understand what you mean now, seeing as there are more p platers on the road now days that would mean there would be more fatalities in p platers, altho, full liscenced drivers can be even more stupid then most p platers, guess its just ********s who are going to crash,
this is also a really good point. Every day in the paper there are stories about middle aged drivers having accidents and crashes, but they only take up a tiny article or ten second news bite because it's not sensational news. Throw a p-plate on there however and suddenly there's interviews with driving trainers and police reports and a whole list of other things that get added in because p-plate "hoons" are the flavour of the month. Don't let it get to you, just drive safely for the conditions, don't act like an idiot and grin and bear it until your time with the green plates is up...
I have no problems with P-platers, elderly, women drivers or most other generilised groups, I will put my 2c in by saying, yes elderly drivers drive quite slow, women drivers I do see putting on make-up while driving in the rear vision mirror, P-platers are 99% of times the ones that pull up next to me and try to provoke a race when they see lowering, rims, hear a V8 and the rest of it, SMS'ing is nothing more than another stupid thing people do, obviously not seen much by elderly as they dont know the technology. Only one lesson can be learnt and practice to be a safe driver and thats 'THINK' about what you are doing or about to do while you have the time and not when you are sandwiched in the car waiting for help. Anyone, admitting myself to be one, has done something stupid on the road that could of killed someone, the repeat offenders are the problem. And finally anyone that says they have never done something stupid on the road, wait until you have been driving more than a year or please teach others how to be perfect.
Kane88, this is what other people need to see, the middle aged man caught speeding and the p plater "hoon" caught speeding are just as bad as each other. shiftySLE - i'll be the first to admit i've made mistakes while driving, i agree completely.
i'v seen full liscenced drivers do very stupid stuff too, like yesterday, driving with a mate, some middle aged woman decided to slam her brakes on leaving my mate skidding along the road trying not to smash up her arse,
Also we have all been a learner, P-Plater bashing (verbally of course) is something everyone goes through and its usually the older drivers way of saying, yes I also did stupid things but now realize that safety (yours and others)is more important than winning that race or showing off in front of mates with burnouts or something.
not to be sexist but i think women drivers are as worse as everyone else, yesterday, i saw a woman driving on a highway with her hands of her steering wheel while she was rubbing something into her hands/
I imagine if he'd kept a safe distance behind her, stopping safely without skidding wouldn't have been a problem. I'm willing to bet your mate was too close to the car in front. Oh dear, another thread that has left the rails........
maybe but in their defense they aren't the ones who are racing and ripping it up in high powered cars (most of the time anyway, good to see an increasing amount of women getting right into the car scene too)
From what I can see, the way these laws are being set out are as a long term plan. The governing body can see that the roads are dangerous places, but also that people are idiots. If you come down hard on the newest batch of drivers on the roads, yes it may be a little unfair now, but hopefully those stricter rules and awareness campaigns will stay with you for the rest of your driving life and eventully the older drivers - who are used to more lenient treatment and media attention - will make way for the newer generation of drivers that are accustomed to stricter conditions and are much better on the road because of it. It's pretty obvious that there's not alot that anyone can do to cange the way the current generation of drivers behave, but through stricter rules, hopefully in the future the roads will be a much safer place... For example, if you're just starting out on your p's now, by the time you are on your opens the urge to talk on the phone will be far less than that of someone who has done it all their driving life. See where I'm going with this?
I know it's a bit off topic, and I did make a reference to another JC thread, but I think you get the drift of what I'm saying..
This add reminded me of my mate driving his tip truck home from work one arvo when a car swerved into his path he looks down though her windscreen just before impact and its a girl on the phone texting or looking at her phone . Well he had to take a few weeks off work to recover, still haunts him. On the upside she at least she wont ever get the chance to kill anyone else
i think by an upside he meant she wont be able to kill anyone with her lack of not give a ****, altho, a person died, not really an upside..
