Gday,

Recently purchased a L67 VX Sedan and have been driving for a few days, today as I went to drive off from my driveway I heard a loud clunk only to discover that my ac compressor bolt housing had snapped in both places, and that it was only held in by one bolt ‍♂️, have bypassed it for now via a shorter belt, and luckily it’s going into winter, but I am now left with trying to make a decision about what I am going to do. So I pose a few question/s to you:

1. has this ever happened to anyone else/is it a common feature for these casings to brake?

2. After trying my best to research and find diagrams around the AC compressor I believe that these housing are a part of the block, is this correct?

3. And finally, what solutions do you recommend? The only fee I could come up with so far are to Buy a new block possible top swap eco job or just cut my losses sell her off and get something else?

Cheers guys

It's been a long time since I've owned a V6 but I would say that the compressor bolts to a mounting bracket which is bolted to the block.
So you would be just replacing the bracket.

Couldn’t get a better quality sorry website won’t let me, but you can see the top of the compressor there and where the housing is snapped, I would believe that to be the bracket?

I can't really tell from the pic but the bracket would be alloy where as the block is cast iron. A wrecker would be your best bet for a replacement.

I have seen this before, assuming the compressor is ok,
Its just the Bracket ? as a wrecker is you best option,
If you do purchase one from a Wrecker,
don't buy it from Central Motor Wreckers in Ballarat.
I deliberately drove from Melbourne to Ballarat to get a particular A/C Compressor they had advertised,
got there and said it was sold the day before, but we have another one that looks almost new,
I purchased the A/C Compressor off them and it leaked like a sieve, leaks at the front pulley,
and said it looked brand new,
It was covered in oil, and going by the tag they had on it, it wasn't from the car I was wanting a Compressor from,
As the car it came out of had done 260,000 km/s, A Compressor from a 260k car wouldn't be very new,
Never again,
Purchase elsewhere.

Is the actual Block broken, or the Comp Bracket in that image ?

It looks like part of the block has broken off, that is not looking good. Was there a part of cast iron anywhere to be found?
