Hey all, on way home today my wife and I heard a knocking, went to check my wheel nuts as it sounded like they were loose and my wheel was rocking back and forth. I pulled off the centre cap (vn Calais mags) and a wheel nut and half the stud fell out, it was a clean snap from the assembly, how bad will it be driving with 4 studs and nuts left (i don't think it will matter) and what do people recommend, get a stud remover and replace it, or does that mean ill need to replace them all? If so is it better to just change the studs or put a new assembly on? Ps rear passenger, I forgot to say that bit.

Bob Jane snapped one of mine and I drive 500kms on it fine. I would replace all 5 studs at the same time for peace of mind. Avoid long time ideas not to screw the hub.

They are ease to replace, handbrake off and car in nuetal, remove wheel, caliper and rotor. Look at the back of the hub and u'll see a notch where the stud can be removed. Simply rotate the hub so the stud is in the notch area, tap out the stud from the front with a hammer. Insert new stud, and place a larger nut or pipe over the stud, whack on the nut and tighten, it will pull the stud I place and lock in. Check the back to ensure its all the way home. Repeat for the other 4 studs.

Cheers, so no need to buy a stud remover for the final 4? Would it be advisable to replace all studs the whole way round? Any idea on stud prices?

Just replace all 5 on that hub, don't stress about the other 3 corners. All studs tap out with a hammer from the front.

Last time I bought them, the were $2 or $2.50 each from holden

You had a very close look at all of your other studs and nuts right? And where the nuts seat in the rim?

There was 3 nuts loose, 1 stud snapped and only 1 was holding the mag on.

Yeah thats why you need to check the other studs, they could be bent slightly, the threads damaged, they could have hairline cracks in them or the surface where the nuts seat in the wheel could be damaged. I would have a very good look at these, if not replace the whole lot.

Obviously though If they all look perfect you may want to run them again, thats all up to you.

Yeah If your wheel has been wobbling around with only one or two nuts tight your studs are probably stuffed

Just buy 5 new studs, knock the old ones thru and replace them all. They are cheap and it's a easy job. You'll sleep easier.
