Hi guys I was quoted $180 for Sonar tyres that are 245/35r19's. I have never heard of this brand and I want to know if these are any good? He has ordered them in for next week and I reckon I want to get bridgestones since they have a good rep. Give me any suggestions, thanks.

Stick with GOOD, well known brands and you will be fine.

Bridgestone, Michelin, Pirelli are the big 3.

Pretty very bad. Achilles ATR Sport are the cheapest tyre I would run, for a daily they are fine.

Ok I just want a good quality tyre that doesn't make too much noise and grips well. I was told that bridgestones are good for that.

I had Yokohama A.Drive R1's on my VY 4 or 5 years ago. They were really good, and we're about $220 per tyre back then.

What other tyres have you used in the past? If you've used something like an RE-002 then the Achilles won't cut it by the sounds of it, if you haven't used any 'expensive' tyre in the past, then the Achilles might be ok. They really aren't very noisy, dry grip is acceptable as is wet grip, the wet grip progresses rather than just letting go (in my opinion, it's what I've found)

I haven't been through a set of tyres yet haha. I have 15's in the shed, two with bridgestones and 2 with I think falcons (not sure) and they were nice. But my 17's have a few different tyres all round so..I don't really know. Should I tell him to forget the sonars and hook me up with a higher brand? I'm happy to pay extra for them.

Sonars: great for burnouts, as you don't care about replacement cost.

Sonars: Really, really bad in the wet or slippery roads.

Had a set on the 19" rims I have. Replaced them at the first chance I got.
Listen to the advice given and go with one of the big three brands. If you can afford it at the time.
If cannot afford them, then best quality tire you can afford.

There's more than 3 big brands..

    Bridgestone
    Michelin
    Continental
    Dunlop
    BF Goodrich
    Maxxis
    Kumho
    Federal
    Falken
    Firestone
    Goodyear
    Hankook
    Yokohama
    Toyo
    Sumitomo
    Pirelli

Even something like a Nexen N9000, those are a very good tyre, even a 6000 is good, much better than the Achilles.

I'm running Continentals at the moment and am really happy with them. Good grip wet and dry and little noise.

I rsn sonars on the front of my ute them put them on the old girl, they gripped better than the bf goodrich t/as I had and lasted twice as long. They've been around for some time too. Though if I had the money to spend I would've had better and not used them.

I bought a set of 245/35/19 off ebay. Brand is CS Carbon or something like that... they were $100 per tyre on special. I drive on freeways at 110km/h regularly and I found them to ride very quiet and smooth. i go on hills runs and the grip is very reassuring in the wet and dry. Because they were cheap i inspect the tyres almost every 500km. 15k kms on them so far and I have alsolutely no complaints

Funny you say that mate, i just bought new 19 inch rims and i have come from PIRELLI PZERO'S on my old 18's.
when i picked them up they had nangkang sports on the front and those CS carbon on the back. i thought i would have to replace the rears straight away as i have never used cheap tyres before. My car only has 250kw at the rears but they hold like glue for me. i can give it to it in first and second and they hold just fine. in the wet they are nothing like the PZERO's but they certainly are not dangerous. The best thing is, when they do start spinning, i dont get axle tramp anymore, mega bonus
