Sony Head Unit and Aerpro AP9 Antenna

    G'day,

    I am in the process of removing the Eurovox HU from my VS and installing a Sony CDX-GT700ui together with an Aerpro AP9 automatic antenna. I am just a little confused and need to ask a couple of questions to make the mud a little less dense.

    First question relates to the antenna. What is the plaited wire that comes off the antenna mast and where to I connect it to, assuming that the black is the earth?

    Second question relates to the HU. I want to install the HU using an Aerpro harness labelled as suitable for the Sony, in fact the plug fits, but there are two other plugs, one is red and the other black, where to they plug in?

    Third Question related to the antenna again. The green and red leads off the antenna have plug ends on them, presumably to allow for an extension, because they are too short to go anywhere. Given that I am using a harness, where to I connect these two leads?

    I apologies for my ignorance but I have never tried to do this before and I want to get it right the first time.

    black and white would be + and - to control up and down, plaited is to the chassis to earth the mast as would the green be imo. other 2 plugs would be for other sony head decks

    1. The plaited strap is the antenna earth for the reception side of things. The black wire will be an electronic earth for the up and down.


    2. The Aeropro harness sounds like it is a Sony to ISO, or Commodore to ISO. The standard for ISO plugs are black and red. One of the plugs has all the speaker connections, the other has the power, earth, ignition, aerial etc. By the sounds of it you might need to go and purchase the other half of the harness.


    3. The green and red wires are for the connection to make it go up and down. The red wire will need a battery connection, and the green wire will be the switching from the headunit.


    this is really not the time for your opinion. maybe if he was asking the the headunit looks good, but not when asking what wire goes where.

    You do have your opinion, but unless you are fully 100% sure you know what is what when it comes to wiring, your opinion doesn't come into play.

    well my opinion is that you will gain 100kw by joining the positive and negative of the battery with big cable. still bloody stupid.
