Hey guys,

I have a vx commodore that I am trying to upgrade. The set up i am trying to do is use is a 4 channel amp for the two front door speakers and the two 6x9's in the parcel shelf. And then a 2 channel amp for the sub i have in the boot.

I grounded both amps onto the child seat holder bolt in the middle of the boot. I was not familiar with how to wire two amps together with the one power input, so i ran the active straight into the 4 channel amp and then ran a wire from that straight to the 2 channel, i did this for the remote wire as well. Now as i put the wire in, the 2 channel amp started to smoke up and it actually blew a hole through the circuit board. Also, the head unit is not turning on anymore, i did not start the car when i did all this i just got the power directly from the battery. So i've lost an amp and i don't know if my head unit is working anymore

Am i doing something wrong? Do I need a splitter for the input power? I spoke to a friend who wasn't sure but said that I might need a capacitor?

Any help would be appreciated.

You need a splitter which are about $5-$10 from just about anywhere that sells car audio stuff, JB, WOW, any car audio specialist, even Jaycar have them. Then run one cable to each amp.

Also use a different earth. Use the seatbelt bolts, one for each amp.

Definately use a distrobution block for your power wires. But blowing things up? You did have a fuse on the power cable right?

And as acarmody said, use different earths as well.

As for the headunit, check your fuses before stressing too hard. And in future, always disconnect the battery when doing any electrical work

Oh, and one more thing, never EVER listen to anything your capacitor advising friend tells you again.
