hey guys, i am at school and have to do a thing called a 'research project' and i have choosen how to modify a utes sound system, it doesent matter what you do its just about how you research eg internet,interviews etc. anyway i have just got a 2005 vz ute and need ideas of what things would be best to change and how you would go about doing it eg where would you put a sub Thanks
Stereo (headunit), speakers, add amps, tweeters, subs, speaker wire there is a lot of changes.. best way of research is go into autobarn, jb hifi, wow sight and sound and ask all your questions about products there. Why thank you!! I thought by searching for it, it would net him more information than people would post in this thread. And if was still unsure about certain things he could come back and ask a question which would then get him an answer, specific to that question and not a broad overview.
For a ute (from my own experience installed it into my mates XR8 Super Pursuit) * Aftermarket single din DVD headunit 3 RCA outs front rear sub, fold out screen. This requires a facia kit. * Upgrade all the speaker wiring, stock stuff is very average. * 0 gauge power wiring, or atleast 2 gauge. * Yellow top optima battery, or atleast a 2 farad capacitor. * Make a parcel shelf out of 9-12mm ply and covering it with the same material as you find in the rest of the ute. You can either put 6X9s there or 2+ 6inch splits with tweeters. You can screw it into the parcel shelf and use hinges so you can store the capacitor there as well. * Amps normally fit very nicely under the seat or screw them behind the seat just under the parcel shelf. * Slimline subs fit real well behind the seats, covering them in the same carpet as the cars carpet also hides them a bit better. You dont need to go excessive with the ute on watts, 2X 1000 watt subs would be plenty. * Upgrade the tweeters in the dash, they are hard to get to but pays off well. * 6inchs in the doors, splits work best you can either put the tweeters in the dash (inplace of factory) or drill into the door and add them right next to the 6inchs. * Bridge can fit behind the side panels in the middle or you can have them mounted near the firewall in the middle. Out of sight and hides wires better. * Cover all the exposed wires for the amp/parcel shelf speakers/subs in the black cable management stuff or feed it under the carpet and cut tiny holes into the carpet, cover the exposed stuff with carpet as well. * Factory looking switch in the center console can allow for you to turn off the subs when you want to give your ears a break. ASR audio does these. Ipod and USB plugs could also be mounted there leaving you with one plank switch hole. Can just fill that with a blank switch or a traction control switch if your model has it. This is my mates set up mostly, it works well he has no complaints other then he didnt get the switch to turn off the subs so he is always listening to music and the radio with subs. I have the switches in my car and I love them.

id say 2 2000watt subs, remember they are slimline, wont give you the same amount of bass as a normal sub.
Most headunits let you adjust the sub bass, also the same for the amps. But slimlines beat fast but not as hard. They are prob equiv to maybe 500-750watt subs at very best.
so sitting on top of 2 750W subs is ok? gawd my nuts hurt just thinking about it... and my ears of course.
