I wouldn't waste dosh on a generic chip. I've had good ones but with the stock ecu been so adaptable to mods as it is why try to improve it without fitting anu physical mods like CAI, exhaust, diff gears etc. These are the 3 1st things to do to any modern efi car imo
ok then coz im thinking of getting a tune for it coz i got a cai and and exhaust and im thinking a tune will help it run a bit better
Is it manual or auto? A tune would be a waste of money IMO if the intake and exhaust are your only mods. Tunes usually cost around $1000 which could buy you a nice cam or good diff alone.
what? you sound like the NRMA guy that i read an article on lastnight... a tune is not a waste of money... more power, more torque at lower rpm, better fuel economy and a generally better car, for approx $800... how is that a waste? If he decides to get a cam the retune is usually included with the cam, and diff gears only knocks your speedo out which has nothing to do with the tuning of the engine...
well my exhaust is cat back at the moment but im planning on putting extractors on and i have done the cai im thinking bout roller rockers and lsd diff
I'd say finish off the exhaust before anything else. That alone will get you better gains than a tune alone with only a cat back. The other sook (anti NRMA lol) is right in that you should work out your goals before going further. If you aren't going to mod it any more maybe a tune would be good. Good luck getting a good tune for $800 though. But on the same token if you aren't going to mod it any more a tune would be a waste of money IMO because you aren't that into cars anyway. No offence mate but people that love cars don't see spending money on them as an issue and will always keep modding to improve it. That being said, if you are going to mod it more wait until those are done and then get a tune. You get what you pay for.
yeah well im going to be doing the exhaust and putting hi flow cats in it and putting extractors on it
pfft (a tune only mucks with your speedo) TRUE, yes. but you can change the way your car accelerates. EG. 317Kw motor, standard diff gears. 1/4 mile in mid to low 13's 317Kw motor, and 4.11 diff gears 1/4 mile in mid to low 12's. same motor. same car, same driver. motor accelerates faster due to gearing. (please note, test was carried out in an auto E-series HSV GTS)
get some headers, highflow cats, and diff gears. then after you've gotten all that, get a tune. The turner will usually change your speedo when you go for a tune if you have changed the diff gears, if not you will have to goto holden and they will recal it for you.
