How Dire are the situations when a crash happens at this speed though to a person with "normal drive skill" if they're just jamming on the brakes what are they averagely hitting at 80-100 kph ? what type of injuries would come out of it ?
??????? And ?????? I think most people know how to slow down - Dont they ? I have been on a freeway @ 110 and come across some one doing 60 , thats a 50kmh difference ... You car has breaks , your cranium contains a brain , .... There will only be a situation if the faster driver is a tool ... I once suffered a gearbox failure , and had 2nd gear to drive back home with , top speed was about 60kmh , ???? So I had little choice but to do 60 on open roads ( 100 limit ) thats a 40kmh difference .. Stuff happens , your duty of care does not allow you to be a dangerous driver , its part of your license conditions . And on German Autobahns , the difference can be over 100kmh ... A little common sense goes a long way , unfortunately finding a little common sense seems to be getting harder and harder ... And most slow drivers drive in the left lane right ? Perhaps the police need to start enforcing that Lane blocking thing , they said they were going to enforce and never did ! ( Slow drivers = Left lane )
Some much inaccuracy in the above post. I think most people know how to slow down - Dont they ? Apparently not or there would be far less crashes than there are. You car has breaks , your cranium contains a brain Yes to both counts for me.....but not necessarily for all on the road. your duty of care does not allow you to be a dangerous driver , its part of your license conditions agree.....but try telling that to someone who suffers at the hands of those who don't understand this concept. And most slow drivers drive in the left lane right ? .....maybe in your fantasy land but not in my real world.
Lol at having different licences for different speeds. Your having a laugh arent you? If you really dont see all the massive issues with this idea then you are a lost cause. If we all followed this train of thought no one would believe or trust any study / survey etc on any topic in any part of the world, what a hilarious view of the world. There was a pretty comprehensive study done in Canada a few years ago that concluded with stats and facts to back it up that raising the limit in certain areas saved live and caused less crashes, i wish i could find it again. It was by the local council or government of the area.
Yea works well until someone doing 100 pulls out in front of someone doing 150, good luck avoiding that and it will happen over and over and over again cause people are morons, it happens to me regularly, I'm doing 100 or 110 depending where i am and a dumb prick will change lanes in front of me doing 80 and i almost run up their ass and wait while they twiddle there thumbs for 30 seconds before deciding to accelerate up to 90 and continue at 90 till i can get around them and back up to the speed limit. Now add another 30-40km on top of that and nobody will be able to stop. And it happens on the autobarns regularly too where a dumbass (usually east german truck) pulls out in front of a car doing over 200kph, go watch youtube and see what happens. Common sense is something that rarely exists in today's society, people are getting stupider, there heads are stuck so far up their own asses they don't pay attention to what's going on in the world around them or think that they are more important then other road users and should be able to get their way constantly. and yea haha on the slow drivers in the left lane, you must live in a fantasy part of melbourne cause every lane of freeways/highways is constantly full of dropkicks doing 5-10 under the speed limit, i do 200km a day on the monash/citylink/tullamarine/calder etc and i am constantly having to overtake dumb shits in the right lane doing 80 to 95 in a 100 zone or less and Truck drivers sitting in the right hand lane on an incline slowing down to 70-80kph instead of them being in another lane which would be considerate but they aint. Police won't enforce it unless they have nothing else to because if they were bothering to book people who failed to follow the Keep Left Unless Overtaking road rule they'd be booking people 24/7 on the highways cause its constant, I've only know of 1 person ever getting booked for it and it was in bum #### nowhere, not even a highway.
Should make the right lane on highways restricted to permit/license catagory and a $10k fine if your in the right lane without the permit/license and ban trucks and ban anything that's towing and no vans, no little shitty yaris or focus etc anything shitty like that.
Steps being taken to improve learner driver skills....What a joke....Firstly, 2 seperate people...one lives in the country, the other in the city....Both go for their learners permit, 2 months apart.... City slicker has the alcohol concentration level question for a P plater...Answer 0 and gets it right Country person gets the same question and answers 0...Gets marked wrong....told the answer is .02....There's the start of the confusion. The city slicker is my son and the country one is my niece. My son got his learners 4 months ago and my niece 2 months ago Then you see learner drivers with driving instructors....Rule driving in a 2 lane road, stay left unless ready to turn right or over take.....Yeah right...The driving instructors keep them in the right hand lane, travelling 10 KPH under the speed limit.... The bloody instructors and pen pushers at the registery department need to learn the rules, before trying to teach someone to drive
I know exactly where you're coming from; but maybe approach the logic from a slightly different angle. First of all, the whole point is that we ARE talking about someone with only average driving skill. We're talking about setting a speed-limit such that this person is less likely to hit anything than they are at 100km/h. I'll pull some numbers out of my backside to give you an idea of what the theory is, these aren't numbers I've taken from anywhere they're to illustrate the idea. These average or even below-average drivers doing 100 on a particular road are having 195 crashes causing 15 people to be killed every year, and 180 to be significantly hurt. These same drivers doing 130 on a particular road are having LESS crashes, however each crash causes more injury & death. They're having 160 crashes a year, causing 14 people to be killed and 146 to be significantly hurt. See how that logic works? A greater percentage of crashes are causing more serious injuries; but this is more than offset by the reduction of crashes in the first place. Think of it like ... I dunno, depreciation on an Omega vs a Clubbie. The Omega probably loses more value as a percentage, but because it just costs less dollars to buy in the first place, the buyer loses fewer dollars over the ownership of the car. While you're 100% correct, and making people actually take notice of what they're doing would have a bigger positive effect on road safety (it's not that they don't have common sense - they're being selfish or just don't care, so they don't apply that common sense while driving) ... that doesn't mean it's bad to do something which makes these selfish rude imbeciles kill fewer of themselves & others. It's a lot easier to change a few speed limits than to adjust the attitude of all those drivers; again, we SHOULD do something to adjust all those attitudes, but we should also do the cheap & easy smaller-positive-but-still-positive thing too. Visited Melbourne for one night a month ago, we had a rental car, picked it up from the airport & stayed in the CBD. Unsure of road names, but whatever the motorway is between CBD & Airport ... I just plonked the rental in the left-hand lane & drove along at dead-on the speed limit due to paranoia about Victorian speed-limit enforcement (according to the SatNav, only a couple of km/h different to the Hyundai speedo though) ... and sailed along "undertaking" everyone. I don't know what's more wrong, them blocking all the other 3-4 lanes while NOT OVERTAKING, or me overtaking on the left (the law is on my side, but an Autobahn regular would probably shoot me ). Only reason to get out of the left lane briefly was to let the occasional person merge easily from an on-ramp ... and all of them, every one, would dive straight out of the left lane regardless of the speed they were doing. It's just as bad in Sydney where all the taxi drivers join Southern Cross Drive as they leave the airport ... EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM dives straight into the right lane, and usually at 10km/h under the limit. *grrrrr*
Tullamarine Freeway until the bend where the tullamarine and Calder merge then its Citylink into the City. That's the crap i have to put up with twice a day. Sydney taxi drivers scare me even more then Melbourne Taxi Drivers, least Melbourne there erratic but usually under the speed limit annoying as hell and slow but in Sydney every single cab I've been in must think they are driving a rally car, speeding, turning right from the wrong lanes, driving over gutters etc etc. QLD taxis scare me the most though, last time i was in QLD the taxi got ####in air, all 4 wheels off the ground.
lol so where did you pluck your statistic from ? ok that's entirely your own opinion and speculation, but so far you haven't produce any evidence that the '85h percentile' research is any more credible than a university study. Where's all the evidence/proof for this supposed reputation that the universities have ? So far all I've seen is heresay because you and others don't like the results. Suggesting that I 'google it' doesn't really support your arguement. If you are willing to make such claims, then you should be able to back it with evidence.
I cleaned it, truly I did ... What university? Monash? I'm talking about studies from real universities, not studies that were only commissioned on the proviso they come back with the proscribed result. Pot-kettle ... if I've got to put legwork in, why don't you? I know I won't convince you, because for some reason you don't want to be convinced ... so I'm not going to spend that time.
I was kinda wondering how Monash & Toowoomba went together. I know this is a complete segue, but in a way you have to wonder how Monash gets away with it. I don't mean just on this, I mean anything. Apparently they're one of the go-to organisations if you're an expensive lawyer & you've got a big law suit with a large client & you need to prove black is white before going in front of the judge; flick Monash a few hungy-thou, and BAM the report is yours, complete with statistics to prove it all. Still, I guess Harold Scruby makes a living out of everyone else's misery, others may's well get in on it.
I'm asking you. What 'real' university/s or institutions provided the 85h percentile data ? And you keep saying the Monash or whatever university have hidden agendas, where is the evidence that supports your opinion ? You base your claims on completely unsubstantiated gossip/hearsay... You are the one making the claims that the results I posted weren't credible, so the emphasis is on YOU to prove your unsubstantiated claims. I'm saying if you want to make that claim, then prove it. So far you haven't given me anything but your own personal opinion and hearsay. If you want people to take your conspiracy theories for real, then provide some credible evidence to support it. Otherwise it's nothing more than your opinion
