Vn Commodore wagon
Hi,
First post here.
I have a bog standard '88 VN Wagon and up until recently it has been performing well, however in the last few weeks at maneuvering speeds I am getting a splutter, it idles fine but if I am in a car park or somewhere that I cannot accelerate normally it almost stalls, this is becoming more apparent when going around a round about or if I am following a vehicle that is traveling 40k below the speed limit, most of the time it seems as if I have to make a tightish turn (as per car park) that is the main problem time.
I have the plugs and associated cables, fuel filter replaced and for the first couple of hours this has worked well but very quickly the splutter has returned and it is becoming an annoyance especially if I am pulling out of a side street onto the main road.
Would anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks

Ignition coils - 1 could be faulty.
If you are made of money, buy 3. If you are tight you can get a know good 2nd hand one and swap them around 1 by 1 till it runs good again.

If it was happening at very low speeds and a V8 I'd have a look at the IAC valve.

Base idle maybe to low or idle air soleniod clogged .
Try spraying throttle body cleanner directly into the throttle body and directly into the idle air port.
Engine off to start with let soak for afew minutes start engine . Then using short bursts of throttle body repeat. See how it idles and drive at slower speeds . .
Next step maybe to adjust base idle.

Could be a number of things, depending on motor size, plugs and leads, vacuum leak, coil or dfi, if a v8 hall effect sensor, fuel pressure, that's some to check out.

"Next step maybe to adjust base idle."

Not sure that this is such a good steer? The manuals say not to alter this and clearly a fault has developed in the OP's car and adjusting the idle speed would just be a way of masking the problem. I'd start by cleaning the idle air control.

Does this only happen when low on fuel? Might be the swirl pot hose has come off in the tank.
