SS turns over but wont fire

    she just doesnt wanna fire, i have power to the coil, all leads are on, fuel pump is working. after turning over i noticed the motor will run backwards for a sec, is this a sign its the crank angle sensor?
    ive spend days nobbing about, she`s such a good girl normally.

    It does sound like the CAS. I think running water over it can help.

    If its a V8 ur talking about it wont have a CAS

    Does it have spark at the plugs? Fuel flow and pressure? Compression

    cheers, i been looking for it! it has power to the coil, i admit she does seem to be spinning over quicker than normal. i shall short the ecu and see if any codes come up. i sprayed aero-start down throttle body to see if she`d fire to tell me if its fuel and no sign of life. cheers.

    The ignition module is the most likely thing to break with the 5 liter

    i did a diagnostic check and got code 12, that means no problem i think. still wont fire. bugger.

    did you wait for the code to be repeated 3 times? I made that mistake, code 12 repeated 3 times then I just turned the ignition off. Every code is repeated 3 times so wait till after code 12 comes up 3 times, then check for a different error code.

    does it crank over??? u know, does it turn but not want to start? what's it sound like? do you have full dash lights?

    Igniter will be your problem most likely if you have no spark. Silver thing on the left hand guard from memory.

    it repeated code 12 over and over. it spins over no probs, have all dash lights etc. i tried the ignition module in my other SS and it fired straight away.

    it doesnt sound like she wants to fire, can smell fuel too.

    Mabey one of the fuel lines arnt feeding properly anymore, can you pin point where the fuel smell is coming from?

    as hater vp said earlier "does it have spark at the plug?", you have only said that it has power to the coil. this may be your problem.!!!! what if it's your coil?, you need to check before and after to definatly make sure.

    it has spark at the plug. iv left ignition on for 40min and will give her a go, perhaps its an imobiliser thing. can but try.

    didnt start. injectors are working and have fuel pressure.

    Yeah u should check the immobiliser could be flat battery in car remote holdin back the immobiliser.

    I know this is a far stretch but a bloke on hear with a vs senator couldn't get his started. Turns out the key wansn't making contact, stupid question but have you tried your other key? If you have a spare key take it to a watch place replace the battery. Someone like mr minit can set you key to blank you open your drivers door with the blank key start up the car and it programs it. Do you hear a beep just before it turns over (secuirty authenticating with the key)?

    Also you have two SS' I'm jealous :)

    yeah mate, i have the 2 SS`s, 2 4dr Q`s, Q uterus, 350 chev ski/wake boat and an 03 ducati. i love all my girls.
    so i thought to myself whats next? i got spark, fuel, pulse etc. why wont u fire!? as i said earlier the motor would spin backwards a little after every attempt to start her, hmmm, timing related im thinking? perhaps she`s jumped a tooth on the timing chain, stripped a tooth or sheared a roll pin on the dizzy drive gear. better investigate.

    i hand cranked her till i reached TDC, popped the dizzy cap to see if rotor button was pointing to cyl 1 or 8, bloody hard to see, but looks close enuff for mee. ok, now its time 2 remove dizzy and check/inspect the drive gear. (fun job getting it out, bloody bad back too from leaning into bay, ahhh, me back!!!) finally withdraw the distributer, hey, nothing wrong with the little prick.
    what the f#*@k is going on? i ask her. i take a step away from the car and arc up a smoke then take a seat on my NOS brand swivelling bar stool. my eyes scan about nmy workshop, genie xtractors hanging, lsd centre, must empty that bloody bin someday, Q`s tuff 6-71 blown 400, cactus t700, the dogs been looking for that ball, a new gt40r coil hanging beside a trusty old mallory twin point, benny hinns healing cripples on the tv. wish i could have a miracle!!
    thinking more about that new coil i decide i may as well put it into service and replace the old one on the SS.
    ok, ill do it!! even though old one was providing a "decent" spark.
