Hadn't done much with the ute recently so with the new VE ute taking on domestic second car duties, I decided I'd better get started on refurbishing the Crewman.

Yesterday, I went down to remove and collect some parts I'd paid for. Got a mark-free SS rear bumper, a good fuel cap, and a 90% straight tailgate.

These will have to go to be painted but should tidy up a few of the minor blemishes that annoy me.

Also sourced an unused 15" steel spare with an OE Bridgestone Duravis tyre to replace my ratty spare.

I have some resprayed exterior door handles ready to pick up and fit when I get the chance to go.

Excited that the project is moving again.

Well, the old Crewman has been safely tucked away in the shed for a while, only getting the occasional run. My attention (and $$$) have been absorbed by my VE parts carter which is becoming a project in its own right (see separate thread).

Anyway, I remembered the other day that it needed to have an inspection done so I could renew the rego.

I took it down to a reputable place and it failed.

The bloke had been very thorough and rejected it on the following things:

*Leaking rocker gaskets

*leaking front crank seal

*malfunctioning rear window motors

*noise emission of 104db

Damn. I knew about the windows, they were on my list but I forgot about them.

The oil leak was quite substantial apparently. I had noticed some spotting on the shed floor.

I enjoy the fact that the ute sounds like a Nascar on steroids but I suppose it was a bit over the top.

Anyway, it's booked in to have it all fixed in a fortnight. It'll pass the inspection then and live to play another day..

What else would I spend half my wages on?

Everything repaired now. Window mechanisms from VZ wagon installed.

A bit quieter now with new rear muffler but still sounds alright...and legal.

Now to get started on the cosmetics....if project VE doesnt keep costing me dollars.

It’s going to keep costing dollars. Should have bought another VZ ute.

Yep, stripped a vz crewman of some good bits. Unfortunately, don't have space to store whole ute

Since then it's been under 6 ft of water so electrical and mechanical stuff no good.
