Hey all, As some of you may know, i have a Impulse blue SV6. Im in the process of changing the interior ove from the crappy exec spec silver plastic to the better quality black/satin chrome interior. My question is can you change ova the standard climate control dials that are in executives, acclaims, SV6's etc to the electronic version that are in Berlina's, Calais etc? Can the VY electronic one be used in the VZ or is it a different system again? Is it a strait swap or are there other steps involved? Ive included a pic, so u know what im on about. Cheers Paul
This comes up a lot, and the answer is basically that yes it can be done, but very few people do because of the cost and complexity. Aside from the controls/facia the heater box is different I think, you may need a new BCM, there are tons of sensor etc and for the marginal benefit that is climate control (esp. single zone) it's hard to justify doing it. Here is one old thread on it, there are tons more if you look around: http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...2002-2004/32315-retrofit-climate-control.html
You're welcome. I'm actually a little interested to know how difficult it would be to change single zone CC to dual zone Off to the search!
I got from a guy on ebay that is selling these that it can be done but you need to purchase extra items to fit it facia, fuses etc but easy to do so he says.
.... and you believe what an eBayer tells you?? Seriously, this has been discussed - yes the heater box it different, as the standard type uses vacuum solenoids to control temp and duct selection - the electronic control - not surprisingly - uses electric motor solenoids. You also need a different BCM, you need the climate control button panel obviously, you need a different centre console panel to accomodate the above control module, you'll probably need to buy the other console panels so they colour match with the new centre dash panel, you need an altogether different wiring harness, and you'll need to competely dismantle the dash to swap all the stuff over. It's a HUGE job, and would surely end up being VERY costly. I wonder just how many VY/VZ dashes Mr eBay has had in pieces.... For him to suggest that the job is "easy"..... I dunno about that.
Hey Greg, happy NY I don't suppose from your many adventures into dashboards you'd have any insight into the difference between single zone and dual zone climate control? If it was just the heater box and control panel I might give it a shot, but if it was any more involved than that I don't think I'd be bothered.
No need to bark down my throat about it :supersad: it was only an inquire I made as he is selling these modules and he more then likely didn't go into detail about it but he would supply everything that would be needed to make the conversion. I would say it would have been easy for him as he does alot of them I guess. The more I look into it the time, money and effort I think it is no longer worth doing so I may as well just have my center console match the rest of the car in satin.
I dont think Greg was barking per say, I'm sure he has alot of people who say the LED mods and AUX mods are easy too. Basically Paul answer is no, we have standard air and thats that
Firstly Happy NY to u all, Thanx for the info guys, i think ill close the door on this one. Going by what Greg said there is alot of work inlvolved. Sounded like a good idea at the time. Cheers Paul
its alright aussie, as you could imagine when you spend hours and lots of money on fiddling with stuff and you know for a fact no it cant be done, or can be with great difficulty, then someone says "yeh but this bloke on ebay says ..." its frustrating. especially when your on a forum trying to help people out and Im sure if it could be done Greg would be one of the first to offer it as a product But I think we're back on page one and understand the misunderstanding Off topic a bit, I would be interested to see what the ebay bloke acctually does offer.
AussieHolden - Apologies, I meant that nothing like the way you took it. If we had been sitting at a table in the pub discussing this over a beer, you would've seen the grin on my face and realised it was very much tongue-in-cheek. My point is that many eBay sellers will tell you anything - whether they know the answer or not. How many times have we all seen a VY cluster on there, advertised as being able to fit VY series 1, series 2, or VZ?? The fact is the NO VY cluster will fit in a VZ, and if you fit a series 1 VY cluster into a series 2, the fuel gauge works in reverse. It can be fixed, but it takes some programming trickery or a $400 replacement sender assembly! Funny thing though, they never write these details in the listing - simply because they DON'T KNOW!! I believe NOTHING that these bozos tell me - I research it myself before I buy anything on eBay. You have no comebacks, apart from the feedback system they have - and who really takes a lot of notice of that, as long as the seller's rating is in the high 90s?? I would be VERY surprised if this bloke's "kit" contained everything that is required. Refer to my list above - it's quite a comprehensive one. From Holden, you would be looking at a couple of thousand bucks easily - more probably - and it truly would be a major undertaking to strip the car sufficiently to remove the old stuff and fit the new. It's a job I'd actually be hesitant to take on, and believe me I've had a lot of VY and VZ dashboards in pieces - both standard HVAC and climate control models. Anyhow, sorry again to have offended.
as greg said, its not worth the money. simple example is on ebay, vt/vx/vu consoles being sold as VY utter ****! dont trust ebay EVER!
im considering doing the conversion in my 06sv8, now ive been reading nearly everywhere that its expensive and timely now time for me is no issue i have plenty of it, the fact that the dash has to come out also is no bother as im replacing the whole interior with vz calais leather trim and also my dash because it had been damaged, the cost is where i am after some info i have a smashed vz calais so i have all the parts required to do the job, would the only other cost be in degassing and regassing the a/c because i also have access to a tech 2 for reprograming, or is there something im missing any help would be great as im starting this HUGE project this weekend and would love to do it all at once rather then have to pull it out again to do it thanks
