I was just checking out the relays under the hood regarding to my starting issue and found that the Grey wire running from the start relay runs to the main plug into the wiring harness and stops on relay side of harness plug. The other side of plug is vacant.
I turn the key on to ignition and its live.
I'm pretty sure it runs to the Auto Trans Inhibitor Switch then to the Theft Deterent System and maybe thats why I keep getting the code #31.

If someone can please clear this up for me would be much appreciated.

    Cheers.

Code 31 is normally your key not making contact with the metal ring around the ignition or the reader itself. Would have to double check the wiring diagram in the gregorys but I think your right about the grey wire going to the inhibitor switch.

Yeah got a new ring for it awhile ago regarding the code 31 and a new key head aswell.
It's a ''Live" wire so therefore it should go somewhere. Previous owner had the wiring stuffed around with ''I think'' by a Auto elecy for the Aircon system...

Can I disable the Theft Deterent somehow and see how my starting goes? Problem is I havent got the key for the Alarm override switch so maybe if I cross somewires or something it can sort this issue out.

Then again if its not the ring causing the #31 maybe the Ignition Switch is at fault?

If someone can please have a look at the Starter Relay for us and tell me where the grey goes that would be great.

On a VS the grey goes to the transmission side of the start relay coil winding - first item it meets is the auto trans inhibitor switch.
Hope this helps despite being VS.

Cheers hako, so maybe the inhibitor switch runs off something else that it shouldn't...

Wavez, just incase your wanting to know about bypassing the theft deterent. Not sure if the owners manual lists the procedure, but the gregorys does Im pretty sure. I dont have it with me atm but I think it goes something like this:

On early model VR's there is a switch in the passenger side door area that you need to push in for a certain period of time, otherwise you put the key in the ignition, turn it to acc and leave it there for something like 3/4 hour.

You will have to double check, but thats roughly what I remember.

Ok cheers but if I do that method it will only disable it for one time only, next time I start it will be back to default. I really need to disable it with the security key but thing is I haven't got one. Is there another way to get rid of the security system without the special key? Like play with some wires behind the key slot in passengers door.

No, not that I know of hako, just trying to get my head around the code 31 maybe this is the culprit since it goes to the theft deterent system. I know it's not being caused by anything else unless the BCM is at fault.
