Starter motor

Hey guys, so I replaced my AUTO VY V6 starter motor with a secondhand one off a mate, now its making a grinding sort of noise for like 2 seconds when started up. He said it came out of a manual but apparently it worked fine before and it's also Bosch. Is there a difference between auto and manual starters?
I don't want to damage my flywheels teeth everytime I start it..
Any ideas what's happening?

Mine used to make a noise. Hasn't done it since I had the T chain replace, trans removed and converter replaced. I never did figure out the cause.

There is no different between a Manual & Auto Starter Motor for a VY
Remove the Starter Motor and Service it,
And that should stop the noise,
I am guessing the Start solenoid it sticking.
