An intermittent problem is when I turn the key to start it sometimes starts as normal until the key is released then stops. I would try to start again turning key to engage the starter but nothing for about 5 seconds then it would start and throw an error code saying immobiliser failure. Do I need a new turn barrel or a new key or is it something more serious? interested if anyone else has this issue.

I've had similar problem and fixed it by fitting a new battery to the remote.
Lots of people on here say it is not worth the trouble just get a new remote, but when you're retired time is not important and the battery was cheap as. Like 5 batteries for $3.50 from memory from a cheapie shop.

Something else I do on a regular basis is charge the car battery all day and overnight which also seems to help get rid of some starty gremlins.
I have found a fully charged battery is almost a must in these cars.

Make sure the knob on your remote has full contact on the slip ring of the ignition.
