Hi i have recently put a VX Trans into my VS commodore when i went to start it all i get is a tick noise.. i dont think it has anything to do with the trans being swapped. i have put a new battery in the car but still all it does it tick and if you do it long enough the starter heats up and smokes. could this be an electrical problem, immobiliser or something along those lines?

Sounds like the pinion on the starter motor has gotten jammed against the ring gear on the driveplate when you've installed the transmission or the ring gear/starter is the wrong one - this will prevent the starter from operating. If it's smoking it will be cactus unless you are very very lucky.

Re installing the starter motor might solve the problem?
