hi

just wondering how to remove the shaft that attaches the steering column to the rack in a vt holden because a steering column needs replacing and need to know how to remove the shaft that attaches the column to the steering rack

best thing you could ever invest in is a service/repair manual for about$30..tells u how to do alot of stuff m8,its also got a section about how to remove ya steering coloumn..to much to write on here lol

just want to know how to dissconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack and how to dissconnect the steering shaft from the column need to know as it may get done tomorrow

theres a little nut that holds the steering column to the rack, tryin to get a pic of it hope it helps m8

ok that helps

how do you dissconnect the steering shaft from the steering rack, would like a exploded diagram if its easy as im probably going to start ripping it out tomorrow

Not to sure m8,as far as i can see the steering shaft comes out in one piece with the column...you might have to take a look once its out to see if ya can seperate them,sry cant help ya more..
Had a look in the manual but doesnt say either about seperating the 2.

ok just wanted to know how to remove the steering shaft from the steering rack to take the column and shaft out as one

The steering rack should connect via a yoke to the steering. Should be as simple as removing a locking bolt and sliding the splined shaft apart as you lower the steering rack. May take a little convincing if it is corroded, but off the top of my head at this hour that sounds about right.

under the vehicle,remove the steering shaft coupling to steering gear pinion clamp bolt and nut.Discard the nut and remove the clamp from the steering gear pinion.
then inside remove the bolts from the steering column lower bearing housing.
remove the bolts retaining the steering column mounting bracket to the dashboard,withdraw the steering column assembly from the vehicle.
Bit more info for ya...
