    p/steering

Well i just had my 30,000k service... Two weeks after i notice HEAPS of smoke coming from under my car, and a burning oil smell. I have a look underneath and there is oil from the right steering boot to half way down the car. The smoke was because a heap of oil was on the cat convertor. Checked the p/steering resevoir, and just what i expected... empty. Rang holden got it booked in straight away. As i was driving into Holden the steering rack was making some loud groaning and squeeking sounds.
Two days later and it seems it be all fixed... but they didn't clean the oil off under my car. Any idea's on the best way to remove it all?

    Steering squeaks

    Hi guys

Have you ever had a slight squeak in your power steering? I've got that in my VZ, and the wheel also feels a bit heavy. Wondering if it's a leak in the PS fluid?

Also - Troy, I'm also in the ACT - where do you get your Ute serviced? I used to use Commonwealth Motors, but am keen to look elsewhere after some dubious service recently.

    Cheers!

pretty common on the ol' vy's/vz's to leak p/steer fluid from lines

heres what i wrote in a previous thread:

well its an easy fix if you dont wanna go dealer,

to check and top up fluids,

    1. under the front bumper on the right hand side the is two short rubber hoses,
    2. grab a flat bladed screw driver and tighten the 4 clamps,
    3. also check the rest of the power steer lines ( more common with those two tho)
    4. in a vz pull up the left hand side engine cover to reveal the power steer resivour
    5. top up power steer fluid with power steer fluid or dexron 111 trans fluid (its the same stuff) the red fluid
    6. if the power steer is basically empty, start the engine and turn wheels lock to lock for about 30 seconds at a medium pace
    7. top up fluids again

    and all done
