Something wierd is going on - if the car has been sitting still for more than a few hours, the trip computer button doesn't work, the audio button scrolls the trip meter over (instead of audio) and the wheel next to it changes radio stations when pushing it IN, although the screen is prompting me to push it clear the trip comp. After faffing around for three or four cycles, everything goes back to what it should be doing. Anyone else had something similar happen?
Might want to get an auto-elec to look at it, or just take it down to the local holden dealership and see what they think about it.
You could try replacing the steering wheel controls. It MAY (slight possibility) be the steering column clockspring. (The clock spring allows the wiring from the steering column to pass through it, to the steering wheel, allowing the steering wheel to turn, without having the wiring wrap around the column and do funny things). Inside the clock spring, the wiring is wound up, just like a clock spring, and the windings tighten and loosen as the wheel is turned. Because the problem is resetting itself, I doubt the clock spring is the problem, and I would be looking at replacing the steering wheel switch gear first, (Or checking the switch gear electrical connectors are plugged in nicely)... I have seen steering wheel switch gear go cheap on ebay. Just keep in mind that although different switch gear will work on all models, (I am using E3 HSV switch gear in my old 2007 Calais), the led illumination may not match (I.E. it may be white, red, or green depending on the model the switch gear is from). Hope this helps. Hope this helps.
The steering wheel controls work off resistance, that is each button has a different resistance value on its circuit so the corresponding module can recognise what you want it to do. It could be a fault within the switch assembly or even the IPC itself. You need to take it somewhere for some circuit testing to determine the cause. Keep in mind that if its an intermittent fault it can only be diagnosed when its faulting generally.
Yeah I think I'll take it back to my local holden dealer, they were really good with the last prob I had and it was covered under warranty, no hassles. Whether or not it's a warranty issue this time, I'll let you guys know. Seems I spend more time writing in these forums about what's wrong with my Ve than I do driving it.... maybe I should buy another VN.
