    Hey guys,

Im considering changing my steering wheel on my VR Wagon. Been looking at...
    Universal Design Racing Steering Wheel

Im guessing ill need some sort of boss kit, where should i get one and how much is it likely to cost?

Any other advice would be good. Basically i just want something that feels a better, looks reasonable but most importantly is legal and SAFE.

    Cheers, Errol.

35cm is the minimum legal diameter from memory, needs to have a padded centre, as the vr has one stock. does the vr have an airbag wheel? if so, you cant remove that legally

you will need a boss kit to fit it to the car, and you realise its a pleather(fake leather) wheel. for $50 you can almost bet it wont last too long before it starts falling to bits

No airbag. So whatever i get has to have a padded centre :(. Is so, could i get away with putting a later model wheel on (say something like a VX Clubsport wheel?)

    What would your recommendation be?

    Cheers, Errol.

The VX wheel would have an airbag though, and then you would have to make it work, if the car is fitted with an airbag it must function yeah?

What I want to know is, if I replace my steering wheel (Airbag model) with another newer/aftermarket wheel with an airbag also, is that legal?

im unsure on legalities, i have put a vt centre bit in my steering wheel which has an airbag and the cops havent said anything yet. only problem with putting later model wheels on is they dont always fit. i found the vt one was a different fitment than the vt one i was trying to put on so i just changed the padded bit instead as mine was crushed after getting infruiated at the car one day

Steering Wheels must also meet ECE Regulation 10 (maybe 12?, cant remember off the top of my head) which means they must be STAMPED with a number and the ECE regulation on the back of the wheel to be ADR COMPLIANT.

Only 3 brands make ADR compliant steering wheels. Momo do, and should be stamped... Isotta also do, and will come with paperwork if they are legal including a sticker to be stuck on your door (Isotta, ADR compliant etc.)... And the last is an Australian company called Walker... But don't know much there, Autobahn sell them though so hakhawk may be able to fill that bit in.

Not ALL steering wheels by these brands are compliant but most will be.

i had to replace my steering wheel in order to get it over the pits about 6 months ago, from memory the diametre had to be 13"... i THINK. and as vn2nv mentioned it also has to comply with ADR, which it will usually say on the box whether or not it does, best bet is to just go to your local automotive shop for this sorta thing and speak to them, they can USUALLY help you pick out a nice one, a legal one, and one that will fit ur car, with a boss kit... its usually better to get this sorta stuff from actually shops instead of online... unless you find the one you want in a shop ask all the questions there, get the salesmans hopes up... then go home an order it off the net... haha.

you said the centre had to be padded... was that for personal taste/safety? because it doesnt have to be padded to be legal...

^^^Also as said.. Does not need to be padded.

And boss kit must be collapsible.
