steering wheel not stright ....but was (havent hit anything :P)

well i know its due to wheel alignment usually BUT i just got one 1 week ago...everything was fine, as i had a faulty strut that i had to replace. Now the steering wheel was straight and car drove straight BUT today (well tonight) when coming home from work i was thinking to myself ...something don't feel right... looked down in dark and saw teh wheel not straight ..it was/is a fair bit out.....nearly pointing right!! WTF could it be? like i have checked everything on it as today when i turned the car fairly sharp i hear this kinda noise that sounded like a bolt stripping when over tightened . but i check everything when i got home and the wheel was straight only when i drove home from work tonight its doing this .

also has a weired noise to the steering , has like a tick/clunk (dull) when turning (only feel it in the wheel) wheel so maybe me rack has died. but still feels teh same. alls i can think of (beside rack) is that a tie rod end (new) has stripped to the tie rod....which in turn i would feel coming home before but yeah i hope it ain't that

anyway gonna go right over it tomorrow before heading to the tyre pl;ace and seeing what the dude there says (as he is a well known friend)

cheers mate..yeh....it aint good.. haha...yeh was thinking that (about the spline) so i checked it and it seems good

i have narrowed it down to either a ****ed pump or rack...as im thinking the rack has stripped inside (dont know how....was a recoed one but was done a while ago) and caused **** to get into the pump resulting in a bad noise it has now

took it for a granny drive and straight away it was makeing noises all over the place.....in the steering wheel and pump plus t6here is allot of tappy/clunk when turning and now it don't feel like it did when turning (;last night) so im up for a new pump and rack id say as the noise it did yesterday was PRETTY dam bad..........BUt what don't get me is the fact it didnt do it straight away after that noise cause it was fine.

 

hmm yeah been thinking that and will most likely take it down in teh morning and see what they say (after i check it) lol

tie rod ends felt tight BUT will make sure tommorow

its just the car now is groaning when turning (in teh pump) and the steering feels allitle harder..weired i know

will let yas know how it goes...GRRR i just fixed the front end haha now this lol

 

well guys looks like its fixed...turns out the the spline bolt was loose after all. id say when i checked it yesterday it was tight cause (id say) the car was on teh ground and the spline was turned makeing it jammed resulting in it being tight (if you know what i mean) and when i jacked it up and checked it today it was loose cause there was no pressure on it makeing it fall back to where it was supposed to be.

anyway i still not sure why it was makeing that groaning noise etc.... but ill keep an eye on it....now me steering wheel is straight lol even though alls i did was tighten the spline thing, and yeh i went to repco today and while i was there i asked about the rack and they want 500 + for a reco one and 150 for a reco pump or a new pump for 220...but i can get a reco rack for 180 at a holden place here that gets them from Sydney

well found the problem.....potentionally very dangerous as well ...today i got some stuff to put in me steering and at the same time flush the steering oil...that went well but when i got in car to turn wheel to bleed teh steering (car off) the wheel turned then went crunch!!! i was like o....k then!!!! turns out the collapsible shaft is ****ed resulting in teh top half of the steering shaft turning but not the bottom ....so i just riped it out of teh wreck out back and gonna put it in me car in morning...gotta work now......and yeh i ain't driving it till its fixed....getting me mum to drive us to work and pick us up....thanks mum lol
