Hi Guys, I'm planning on fitting an aftermarket stereo into my VY SS so that i can: - have aux in for mp3 player - run the 4 door speakers and the parcel tray 6 x 9's with amps - have bluetooth phone through my stereo .... but i really don't want to lose my steering wheel controls. This is probably pretty far fetched but is there anyway of hooking up some of the controls to an aftermarket stereo... are there any stereos that will allow you to do this? Like volume up and down and mute etc? Also my finances at present don't allow for a whole stereo setup so i might just do 2 front door speakers and 2 rear parcel tray speakers, so i was wondering how would it sound running through the stock stereo? Thanks, Adam
There was an adaptor put into my car called a 'Cat 10' I think which cost about $200 and allowed me to continue using my factory steering wheel controls with the new head unit. I am unsure if it works with every new unit or specific ones, you're probably best off just to go into a car audio place, pick the unit you want and make sure you can contine to use your factory wheel controls with the upgraded adaptor.. Anything else just ask me mate.
cool thanks so was the cat 10 thing an alpine product or generic as i'm most likely going for a pioneer head unit... thanks.
you can find them on ebay PAC SWI-X UNIVERSAL STEERING WHEEL CONTROL INTERFACE - eBay Accessories, Cables, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 10-Mar-08 23:52:36 AEDST)
This has been covered heaps of times before.Run a search and you'll find all the info you need.My opinion, get phreddy to mod your stock unit so you can run rca's to it, then just install an aftermarket bluetooth kit.If you need details pm me.
I might just put some good JL speakers in for the time being with the stock holden head unit, as the stock holden ones are shiit. I'll go 2 6x9's and 2 6's. Will it sound a lot better than stock speakers and will the head unit cope ok?
