IF you are absolutely sure you have wired it correctly, the only thing I can think to do, is to test that the H/U is working properly.
Wire the H/U directly to the car's battery, by passing the factory loom.

Put the H/U's earth to the earth on the battery and the constant and accessory + wires to the positive side of the battery.
Make sure no other wires come into contact with each other or the battery.

If there is something wrong with it, the H/U's fuse should blow.
If not, either you are doing something wrong, or there's a fault in the factory wiring.

Ok... VY plug is what we call an ISO plug (for the techie geeks it's ISO10487). It's divided into 3 sections as you can see. A, B and C. A and B are the same shape and contain 8 pins each. Your power connections can be made in section A, the bottom one. Section B contains your speakers wires and Section C is a 20 pin plug which contains lots of goodies that guys like myself have fun with.... and you need to back off princess cos you dun #### some **** up if you be messin' that.

In Section A and Section only.... you need to find these wires...

    Accesories - Yellow
    Constant - Orange/Black
    Illumination - Brown/White
    Earth - Black/White
    Antenna - Yellow/Red

Now, cos I'm a nice guy... I will redo the list but the second colour will be the matching wire from your new headunit. Once you have done this and can confirm that you have only gotten wires from Section A... let us know.

Accesories - Yellow = Red On Headunit
    Constant - Orange/Black = YellowOn Headunit
Illumination - Brown/White = Orange (or Pink if present)On Headunit
    Earth - Black/White = Black On Headunit
    Antenna - Yellow/Red = BlueOn Headunit

ok... there is no real other option here but I believe there must be a dead short between the ground and the power input somewhere. Probably in the headunit.

I'm going to guess it will do the same if you plugged in the antenna before hooking up the ground wire.

ok thanx taz i will do that
In my defence the wife bought the stereo because her car isnt as cool as mine i have a kenwood stereo in mine
is it something i have done to cause the short ? in the headunit
it did work the first time i hooked it up to the battery. Just not after i tried to hook it up to the harness now it just blows the fuse in the headunit

When you wired it to the harness without the battery disconnected (if you did), you may have inadvertently touched another wire briefly somewhere without knowing.
This may have not been enough to blow the fuse, but may have been sufficient to damage the sensitive circuitry in H/U some how.
This is only a guess, as it may not have happened that way at all.
The H/U was probably faulty to begin with.
