I think it's a good idea, I surely don't know them but I am curious to find out. I've heard all too many different things. Anyone know?
It might be a bit hard as there is a lot of talk, but not too many facts on the forums here and others on the net. If you are wondering if something is legal or not, you would be better contacting your local authorities for the definitive answer. You would look a bit silly if you got pulled up by the coppers for an illegal mod, but then said to them that you read it was OK on the JC forums :hiding:
for a nsw pink slip mods can not be dangrous to predestrions or occupants of the vehicle and must not block the view of the driver ie bonit scoops gauges etc, there are many more but im too lasy to type tonight
each state in australia has different regulations in regards to modifications which are legal (without being police passed or be put through an engineer) best way i think is to just get hold of your local DPI and ask the question. Over here in WA its becoming stupid with what you can and can't have. For instance my mate at work has a 71 XY GTHO 351 absolutely schmick car, coppa pulled him up for his exhaust being too loud, coppa didn't test the db level but still gave him a lickie. When he put the GT over the pits they didn't even test it there but picked him up for the smallest little oil leak you could hardly see it
in wa we cant have anything hanging from the mirror anymore dammit no fluffy dice for my fully sick monaro mate
i have a 200 page rta book too follow for e-check (pink slips) and they can change the rules anytime, also what the police can get you for is complety diffrent from what i can fail a car for in some cases.
Long story short, anything, even legal mods, can get you a defect. Why bother wasting your time and money doing things right (ie an engineers certificate) when it isn't worth the paper its printed on.....
ah righto so the rta book that you work from are the current regulations etc? so is it the police that are running with out of date regulations?
all the stuff i have now is stright of the net, everything is done from the rta website now through security crap and what not. i think on the rta public site there is a pdf that can be down loaded full of modifation infomation. ohh and i cant vouch for the cops but i think they find something they dont like and put a canery on ya to get it checked.
Yeah varies wildly from state to state. Anything out of the bonnet (superchargers/gauges etc) is banned in WA unless stock or so problematic and tiresome to get licensed, no one bothers. Slightly easier i think with street rod stuff? but don't quote me on that. You need to speak directly with your RTA/Dept of Transport whatever with your plan and find out if a) it's legal and b) what you will need to do to get it over the pits.
I thought that every mod was illegal unless you have a compliance plate? Same as going through the pits to get a car registered, everything on the car must be stock as the day it rolled out of the car dealer. Ive had mates in WA fail for having no roof lining! I am most probably wrong though....
Pretty sure machine guns that flip out of the headlights are illegal. Yeh, got defected for my machine guns last week. Absolutely peaking, only bought and installed them the previous weak.
it would also depent on the officer that pulled you up, some just automaticly assume that you are a ''hoon'' and just want to give you the shits. others will let a bit slide.
I have a neighbour that is into Mustangs. He tells me in SA with a LH drive original Mustang, he cannot fit any wheels apart from factory mags. If he converts it to RH drive, he can fit whatever wheels he wants on it. :rofl2: The laws are so wide and varied, a thread here could not cover all possibilities.
If you live in Victoria I'd start by consulting here: Vehicle standards information : VicRoads and also here: http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/CC48FC10-4D57-4F04-82E1-3BD72EF88340/0/VSI8.pdf Reaper
Regulation 257 of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009 requires all modifications to a vehicle to either have specific approval from VicRoads or to be carried out in accordance with guidelines published by VicRoads. Application of tinting film to windows on a motor vehicle is a modification. This document is a published guideline for the purposes of Regulation 257 and generally applies to all vehicles.
