    My car
    Series 1 VY SS
    extractors
full twin 2.5inch stainless steel exhaust leading into straight pipes
    high flow mufflers
    OTR with MAFFless tune
    6 speed manual
    116,000kms

    Mates car
    series 2 VY sv8
standard besides a cat back exhaust
    6 speed manual
    196,000kms

    Heres the thing.....

    first drag
We sat on 40km in second gear, cruise control enabled and planted it at the same time.... we were side by side up until around the 4000rpm mark when I slowly began to pull away.... how pathetic...

    second drag
took off from scratch and both managed to take off side by side with little wheel spin, same thing again side by side up until around 4000rpm where I slowly pulled away, 2nd gear the same.... His bonnet was around were my boot was, I barely beat him...

With the full exhaust system, air intake, maffless tune and 80,000 less kms I barely beat him... Pathetic right.

to top it off, his car also sounds better... his crackles and burbles, whatever you want to call it all the time, mine barely does it and when it does it doesn't sound half as good.

Not to happy, has anyone else achieved poor results from Maffless tune etc... I think the next thing is to get them both dynoed. (previous owner claimed mine was producing 260rwkw but we all know thats not reasonable....)

From memory peak torque doesn't hit until about 4200rpm, so what your saying makes sense.

I'd assume ss weighs more than sv8. Both your weights come into play also. As well as amount of petrol in tank and things in boot. 100kg makes a considerable difference when dealing with the same motor.

His may be in better condition than yours too. Might have a healthy engine. I had a v6 manual vn that would pull away from 304 commodores. A lot of variables with engine wear, carbon build up, oil, plugs, filters, and a lot of other things that can effect performance.

Its pretty sad though, all the mods for nothing.... yeah sv8 weighs less but still....everybody raves on about Maffless tunes and how a car with a maffless tune will destroy a standard one...Not in this case lol

The quality of the MAFless tune is important. Who did it?

Also where was this racing taking place?

wouldnt call it racing, the starting at 40km went only until 3 gear which is not even 100...was just a simple test to see if a maffless tuned would "destroy" a stock car. Unsure who completed the tune, aren't they all the same?

Maybe it was poorly done then. May have to get it dynoed and see what its really producing

Dyno power runs are really only good as a comparison tool, like strapping the car in, doing a run, tuning it without removing from dyno, and running it again. Anything else is basically a magical number.

It's just unburnt gases combusting as they reach the exhaust in negative load i've been lead to believe. Most cars will do it. Aftermarket exhausts just make it more noticeable.
