This is very sad news , best of luck tracking it down, and yeah legally you do have a leg to stand on, but then there is the task of finding the car itself

As the police arent doing anything, your best bet is to take civil action. He has committed the tort of conversion, bit of info here. Probably not gonna get the car back, but might get you the money for it/a bit of inconvenience money.
Thanks to everyone for showing an interest in this... Maxxiz- I am now following it up as a civil matter. Thanks to the facebook page (that I had to delete) the idiot who has my car has now told the police that my car is "fine, in perfect condition and is being stored". He also told them he was holding it because I owe him money (being the initial $500 he gave me 18 months ago). I have been making it perfectly clear for almost 18 months that the money is here to be returned to him as soon as I have seen the car. In other words IF this latest story is true and the brocky is safe, then the stories he spun about it being sold, crushed, stripped etc are all lies. The best I can do now is hope that the car is ok and that the legal system will get it back for me. Its in the hands of solicitors. NEVER TRUST ANYONE WITH YOUR PRIDE AND JOY!!!

Well at least he has admitted to having it, so it should be a simple case of give him the cash and get your car back... Should be.. Hope the lawyers can do their jobs and get it sorted and that you get your car back soon, and its still how you left it. Although, he might try and sting you for 18+ months of storage fees...
Coz she hasn't seen proof the car is in good nick yet, or even that he has it. I know I certainly wouldn't be returning it until I knew the car was as described, where stated, and finde to be picked up again.
