Ok, so this morning I go to start my 2001 VX Commodore Equipe (only got it about 3 weeks ago from a dealer) and before I even put the key in the ignition, a loud, strange electrical humming noise started coming from under the dash/steering wheel and another strange noise from the rear of the car.

I checked the rear and it was the locking mechanism in the boot trying to constantly lock/unlock etc.

I tried to start it, which it didn't, and the dash displayed "ERROR", made a couple of beeps and the windscreen wipers came on, even though the stalk was in the off position. The indicator were also constantly on. Not flicking on like I'm turning a corner, but just constantly on.

It kept doing this for about 10/15 minutes until I decided to disconnect the battery.

I've called the dealer and they're getting it towed to check it out, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has seen similar behaviour?

    Thanks,

    Jason.

It sounds to me that the Body Control Module is the problem, but I'm only guessing.

Ok, they've reset the body control module and reckon it'll be fine.

What exactly is a body control module and what does it do and what would cause a fault in it? :)

It controls may things like, central locking, power windows, engine immobilizer, courtesy lamp delay, automatic lamps off, heated rear window, air conditioning, boot release, engine cooling fan low speed, cruise control and more on the higher end models.
