youll need to get yourself a helicoil kit.... a helicoil is a thread that screws into a taped thread so the sump plug will fit nicely again... im not sure what size youll need, but i wouldnt stress to much can be fixed quite easly

Get yourself a pair of vice grips. They are like a pair of pliers but they lock on to anything that you want to get a good grip on. You should be able to buy a new sump plug from a place like repco or autobarn.

I think he means the hex has rounded on the bolt.

Get a hammer and chisel, tap the chisel with the hammer anti clockwise on the head of the bolt, try not to hit it too hard or you might crack the alum cast sump. Bumhole of a job changing a sump in an ecotec. Sump plug threads are fairly fine, so once the bolt is cracked it should screw out by hand.

Hmmm - do you mean the bolt head is fubar or the thread is stripped or both???

Rounded bolt head = whatever spanner you can get it to turn or as a last resort try vice grips

Stripped bolt = helicoil after you get it out

Both = Use whatever you can find to get it out - probably vice grips (as bad as they are)

Ok mate.. Easiest way is to get a 17 or 18mm socket and hammer it onto the sump. Using a torque wrench or a long handled ratchet, get the bloody thing off and chuck it in the bin..

If that fails, try the chisel thing.. This happened on my girlfriends AU when she tried to get the plug off with an open ended spanner and rounded the thing off like a bitch..

It worked..
