Got a call from a friend who asked what serial numbers (or part of) to look out for when buying a VS 5ltr block as they are factory cleared for a 355 kit. I couldnt help him, so was wondering if anyone could give me the info to pass on.. This will also confirm if the VS SS block I have got is the real deal too.... Cheers!
E/N VL649472 This is in the VS range or 215i engine numbers - this one came from a Grange but not sure if the 215i was the stroker motor. If it is your looking for a VL prefix.
From what I know, VR series 2 onwards blocks are factory clearanced for a 355 stroker. These blocks also don't say the capacity cast in the side i.e. VR series 1 and older will have "5.0" cast on the side. This is info i've had passed onto me so cannot confirm 100% that its correct? Cheers
Incorrect.... The VS V8's were also a factory cleared 355 block and I also think the VR GTS had the same in them too. (not 100% about the VR) But, the block I have in my garage for my build starts with a "VU"xxxxxxx.... Any Idea whats thats from fellas?
Wrong. All blocks VR onwards. I always thought it was all VR blocks but stand to be corrected if it was series II onwards. I think you are getting confused with the VT (and VSIII) 5 litre roller cam and multi port efi motors. VU prefix ran from VN - VS so it could be anything. Grinding a block to suit 355 ci is easy so any good block will do. Reaper
Yeah Just a little nic with a die grinder and she's sweet I hear.... Its only to stop the bolts from hitting I think.. Bugger all to take off really....
Pretty much as above; I remember when the 348ci 215Kw motors were released (joint venture between Harrop and GMH?) and from then on all factory blocks could run the larger stroke crank.
