hey all. i have to change the strut bearings on my vt. im wondering what else needs to be replaced? and do i need to compress the springs? what steps are involved in removing the strut to replace the bearings? any advice would be awesome... cheers
Strut needs to come out and the springs compressed slightly. It is easier to crack the big nut on the strut before you lift the car up as it is a bugger to undo with the weight off it. Undo the first nut and remove it, take the round plate off and loosen the nut under that. Refit the plate and put the other nut back on loosely. Jack the car up, undo the sway bar link, undo the two bolts holding the strut to the stub axle, then remove your top nut and pull the strut out. Compress the spring until the top nut is loose, then remove it. Replace the bearing and put it all back together. I have a set of SuperPro strut top bushes with bearings brand new in the box you can have for $170 posted.
i have the bearings and the bushes but im wondering if there is anything else i need to replace? like the cover (boot i think) on the shock or anything like that
If they are still the original shocks in there chuck em away and fit something decent, they will be buggered by now without a doubt.
Wile ya gotta pull it apart id be putting new struts in aswell that's if ya can afford it as like has been posted above if the top is worn out fair chance the strut is aswell .
yeah probably but i cant afford new struts... ill do the best i can to make it safe and last till i can get new struts... cheers guys
