Strut needs to come out and the springs compressed slightly.

It is easier to crack the big nut on the strut before you lift the car up as it is a bugger to undo with the weight off it. Undo the first nut and remove it, take the round plate off and loosen the nut under that. Refit the plate and put the other nut back on loosely. Jack the car up, undo the sway bar link, undo the two bolts holding the strut to the stub axle, then remove your top nut and pull the strut out. Compress the spring until the top nut is loose, then remove it. Replace the bearing and put it all back together.

I have a set of SuperPro strut top bushes with bearings brand new in the box you can have for $170 posted.

If they are still the original shocks in there chuck em away and fit something decent, they will be buggered by now without a doubt.

If you have spring compressors, you can get the strut tops out without removing the strut.
