How the hell do I undo the VN strut top nut?

I don’t have a 22mm spark plug socket and the 22mm ring spanner I have too wide to get in the well around the nut.

I need the shocker out of it so can’t afford to damage that by using a pipe wrench or vice grips on the shocker.

I’ve got a 22mm socket and used vice grips on a flat head screw driver and the socket. Not got anywhere.

Cursing this stupid design, everything else uses Allen keys and a nut that isn’t buried.

The other option would be a go through socket. Either the tool mention above or these will get more use than just once. These got me out of a pickle when installing my new balancer on the LS.

It’s done. I got the bloody thing off.
Many thanks to all who suggested using the rattle gun.

I ended up wrapping the finger if a leather riggers glove around the shocker rod and clamping that with vice grips as it still spun even when I used the rattle gun.

The rattle gun was the thing that got it though.

Good to hear it's sorted.
