So there's two nuts for the strut. One the locking nut is at the top which holds the strut into the car the other is the strut top nut. Both are the same height but the upper one is a locking nut. The only reason the upper nut is thin is so you can fit the little black caps on which is why some shocks just give you a standard nylock nut for the upper.

Correct, as I have done strut replacement a few times, and noticed both nuts were different and thin,
and the Pressed nut is the Tower Nut, [Top Nut]
and the other one is the Strut Nut.
Well that's what I have always called them, to differentiate between the 2. ;)

Yep and in a pinch you can use the tower nuts for the struts and use standard nylocks on the towers. Like I suggested earlier.

Stuffed a strut top nut getting it off. Can’t seem to get hold of one anywhere.Anyone else had this problem?

So we all know which nut is stuffed !

Is it the Top Nut that holds the Strut in the Tower ?
or
The Strut Nut that hold the Strut together ?

Tell you what, bring me a 600ml Farmers Union iced coffee, (not the strong one) to my work and I will bring in a complete strut to work and you can take it home and keep the lot. I work on Frederick St. PM me if you want it.
Sounds good mate, bit of a rookie question, but how do I pm on here?

The very top nut that you can see when you open the bonnet.

So now,
Just go to a suspension shop they will have hundreds spare as all new shocks come with them. I'm just a service mechanic and I even have a few in my tool box.
Would you happen to know much about strut top mounts?I just checked the nolathane ones that I’m running against an old standard one ,there is about 10mm difference in thickness, being that the nolathane is thicker.Someone else told me that the old ones would have collapsed over time?
