I was doing a service on my car and forgot to put the oil plug back in and poored 5lts of oil on the ground. Had to ask next door to take me to town to get more oil
Stator Wrong Way Around! Over thirty years ago, I was driving from WA to NSW. Stayed overnight at a place called Mundrabilla, about 70 km from the border. Next day was about 600 km to Ceduna, with about 500 km dirt road. Got up early, and packed the car and family. Car would not start. Local mechanic came over to offer help (at a price), but quickly exited when he saw under the bonnet. My car was a Triumph 2500PI, a great car when it ran, but prone to fuel injection troubles - as I was about to find out. First checked the spark and timing. All OK. Next fuel. Checked spark plugs. Nice and dry, even after much cranking. Unpacked the boot as the electric HP fuel pump was under the floor of the boot. Turned on the ignition. No noise from the pump. Decided that I had no option that to try to fix it myself. Pulled it apart, and found the rotor stuck. Managed to pull it out of its bushing, gave it a clean, put a bit of engine oil on it (only lubricant available). Now it spun freely. Had some trouble getting the stator on back over the top of the rotor, but finally succeeded. Turned on the ignition, and a lovely whirring noise was heard coming from the pump. Repacked the car, put the family in and "no start". Pulled my hair out. Started fault finding again. Eventually disconnected the fuel line at the injection rail to check if there was a blocked line, as the spark plugs were still dry. Nothing came out when the ignition was turned on, which was a surprise for a system at 105 - 110 psi. Was getting frustrated when I noticed a hissing sound. Checked further and found air being drawn into the fuel line. The fuel pump was working the wrong way around. Unpacked again. Disconnected the fuel pump and turned the stator through 180 degrees, which is when I noticed the lines on the pump and stator that were obviously meant to line up. This time I started the car before I repacked everything. Success at last. All this was new territory for me, and our 7:30am departure turned into a 1:30pm. You might say alls well that ends well. But the trip to Ceduna added a new dimension to the word frustration. But that is not related to this thread.
Overdone oil Did my first grease and oil change when I was a kid, but I mistakenly thought you put the whole 5 litre bottle of oil in when u replace the oil. Problem was, the car only took about 4 litres, ha ha you should av seen the cloud of black smoke trailing the car LOL
i was giving a mate of mine a hand to convert his xy from auto to manual we had it in a mates shed with the door closed.the car was on ramps and the dude who owned the car was underneath trying to get the box out when all of a sudden it took off from the ramps and backed through my mates shed door.when we asked what happened my mate said the handbrake cable was in the way say he undid it.it had only had its $3500 sprayjob for 1 month and the car nearly took his head off on the way past.
Probly the worst thing was...my younger brother asked me if he could poor the oil in the engine when iw as doing a service..so i let him do it...so i walked away had a smoke came back and there was 4 empty bottles of oil on the ground...he had put over 20L of oil into my car.... i blame my self for not watching him
15 years ago, I put the high tension battery cable from the starter motor, thu a hole in the firewall 4 the battery box in the boot without a rubber grommet.... U do the math.:my: Lets just say thank f$#k 4 isolation switches 'n Fire extinguishers! lol

Changin the thermostat on my brothers pulsar. Took two bolts off the housing. Loose, but woulnt come off. Thought maybe corrosion holding it on there, hit with a rubber mallot a few times, came off ok. Then I noticed the third bolt under the housing that I hadnt seen... Anyway, went to compare thermostats and my dad had purchased the wrong one, so the car isnt driveable till we get both the right thermostat AND a new housing....
Puttin new clutch in my hx tunna so i could go to work next mornin. Gets in to test it to find not workin. I forgot to put the new thrust bearin in. Instead of goin to bed at 2 am i got to bed at around 4, only to get back up at 5.

fitting my new head unit was following the colour codes of the units harness and a harness guide for the freewire->stock connecter. then half way though was told to just join it colour for colour, everything works fine except the rear speakers. the rear left and right are the wrong way around [ i.e. swapped channels ]. still havent bothered to fix it.
my brother in law used a tree to lift the donk out of a valient, tree fell and smashed his jaw, crushed the car and smashed the front of the house.
A mate of mine cooked a red head, the only one around was a blue one. I told him yeah sure it will bolt up no worries but to check the head gasket was the same. He figured if it bolted up it would be right. So he put it on drove down the road and cooked it again. He then asked me to tow him home and asked me why it cooked. I wasn't sure so we pulled the head of, when i lined the gasket up on the head the water jacket holes were covered in.
