I fixed it! Problem was as I suspected. The needles were rubbing against the holes just enough to stop them moving. Carefully drilled the holes out a little larger and no problem, all works fine.

All good, but now im curious. what do the screws reveal?
If I didnt undo any maybe there is no need for others to do so?

uno the plastic clear bit the fascia sits on?? there r tiny screws that hold the platic part down and also holds those mechnisms in place ive had probs same as u b4 wen ive dun the conversions of LEDs just those screws havent been dun up propely 2 keep those mechinsms flush with everything n making sure it doesnt rub on the sides like urs was doin.

ah!! well that makes sense cos your doing the leds but just the fascia you dont need to undo em.
BTW, the fascia has locator tabs so its a bit hard to put it on any other way but the right way.
I'm thinkin maybe the shafts got bent a tiny bit off centre when i removed the needles.
It wouldnt take much 00.01 of a ml would maybe be enough to upset things?
hope this all helps others anyway. thanks for the input.
