What have you done with the manifold and plenum?

manifold was originally cut open so i could gain access inside to smooth the plenum internals (its ported both up the runner and into the head, to the same size as the gasket). it then got a basic square top. iv since broken the engine (snapped cam chain) n it came out n got repaired, so figured when it goes back in its going to get the turbo it was built for. but didnt like the idea of a P/s throttle, so as we know turbos like big plenums. i hacked up an ecotec plenum to be able to use the TB and increase the volume, so it got welded up on top of the old box. so admittedly it probably doesnt need to be so tall but i did it for the internal volume with the aim of trying to eliminate uneven mixtures across the intake runners like the stock mani is plagued with.

it doesnt actually look like iv done much, but next to a stocker it looks massive.

ha yeah true, i had a mental blank about you not having the engine in.

do all the other drifters hate on you for having a commodore? i'd love to give it a crack one day in the ute, as i race motorbikes in a class which is practically drifting but on two wheels. so hopefully it translates a bit over into 4 wheels.

ha. yes. they pay me out all the time about my bombadore n commonwhore. i absolutely can not wait till monday! shouldnt take more than a few hours to get the heart back in the beast!!

also, drifting on a racetrack is so much easier and better than on the street, so if youv ever kicked it out or fishyd a little then you will love how easy it is on a track! i say if your interested just find a pair of crappy steelys n go for a slide! soo much fun

thanks. that^^ was early 09, in november 09 i was in a comp round and took out equal 1st in the street driven class. power steering makes one helluva difference when it comes to changing your direction!!! i tried to get a vid up of the practice day i did before that comp round, but stupid Photobucket wouldnt let me last night....

ahh that makes sense, its good that the kart guys let you out on their track. some kart guys dont even want motorbikes on their tracks, let alone cars.

luckily i have a kart track quite close to home so i can practice my racing, but i think they would have a fit if i went to put my ute on it haha.

Have you lightened the torsion in the power steering rack?
I do it to all my racks in my speedway car because i run a 2:1 steering quickener it helps make it lighter to work the wheel around.

no, what i was getting at, was the vid with the chromies on the front, being my first time on the track, i destroyed my powersteering setup. ran the pump dry and then that went on to burn the seals in the rack and destroyed the bearings in the pump. so it was heavy as. i went on to replace the rack with a freshly reco rack and a brand new pump. and then also fitted a power steering cooler and magnetic filter.

so whats this torsion thing you speak of?

The torsion bar is a thin rod that runs down the center of the rack input and the bottom of the bar is connected to the pinion. The more torque you uses to turn the wheels, the more the bar twists. The torsion bar will take up the torque and control the spools in the racks power head changing the flow. Edit deleted crap explaination.

Here is a good link to explainhttp://www.woodwardsteering.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=662:9a-how-power-steering-works-the-torsion-bar&catid=44:woodward-tech

If you rang a power steering shop they might explain it better

i dont know if i understand that.... i know that inside my rack theres a valve thats actuated by the force on the steering wheel, but that just varies the direction that the power steer fluid pushes, im not sure i know of this torsion bar though... in saying that, since iv had the new steering system in its been nice to drive, not too heavy not too light and runs fairly cool. the only thing ill be doing to my steering is extra lock! iv already got the spacer to put in behind the rack end.
