Sub Enclosures

I need to build an enclosure for my 12" sub. The manufacturer recomemded an enclosure of 1 cubic foot. When building the enclosure do I have to take into account the amount of room that the back of the sub takes up?

Also, will an enclosure that is a rectangle sound different than one with an angled side?

if it says 1' cubic make it that size and cut the hole acordingly but the bigger the box gives you room for ports of you want them
and the angle dont make a hell of a difference its mainly looks
as long as there is sufficiant space for the sub magnet so it's not hitting the back of the box.
