was driving yesterday and my sub randomly cut off and came back on about 10 minutes later. this problem has occurred a few times since yesterday now. the amp is still running and doesnt seem to be going into protect mode. ive checked all my wires and nothing seems to be loose. im thinking there might be a kink in my speaker wire leading to it cause it to cut off? any ideas at all would be grateful i've checked everything i can think of so far. it doesnt seem to be related to battery power or alternator power as its charging and doesnt seem to matter if im driving fast or slow it still cuts off for periods then returns. as i said any ideas would be great! cheers
I had a similar issue once, The problem was that I was draining all the power from the Amps internal capacitor. Sub would restart after power had regenerated. Getting a large external capacitor solved the problem. in fact it happily ran 2 subs after cap was installed. oh, and only other time I had that issue was after I rewired my subs to run at 1ohm, but my amp was not 1ohm stable so once again cut out when too much power was run through it.
yeah it hasnt done this at all until now and its been in for about 3 months. so im not sure what it could be. what are these capacitors worth?
not heat related. the amp only just starts getting warm when its on for long drives. its never cut out from heat. it hasnt been constant at all. just cuts out randomly and comes back on. it can be back on for 10 seconds or half an hour. thats why im so confused as to what it is.
hahaha so you actually reckon its worth trying a capacitor? ive never looked into them so i dont know much about them. just what they do.
No, it's not worth getting a capacitor. That's bad advice. You most likely have a wiring issue and if you are 100% sure that it's not turning off or going into protection, then it's most likely your speaker wiring or the subs. It should be cheap and easy enough to put new speaker wire in to rule that out first. What brand and model amplifier is it?
this is true. ive looked at it all and cant find any obvious faults. considering dropping it into an audio shop and seeing if they can find something. but that could be 2 weeks before i get a chance haha. the sub is a Kicker 10TCVT124 12" slim line and the amp is a Cadence QRS Q6000A mono block. the gain is at about a third to half way by memory if that helps.
so just checked all my wires. swapped the speaker wire and everything has power except the speaker wires. changed all my fuses again and checked my battery and its charging properly. the amp still isnt in protection or losing power. starting to think ive blown something in the amp maybe? have racked my brain completely of ideas at this point.
I don't think a capacitor is what is required to fix your issue. Just keep it in mind if you expand your system dramatically. It's kind of like a half way point before upgrading to a dual battery system. Well maybe a 1/3 of the way, but I'm sure you get what I mean. LOL
i dont have enough room for a second sub in my ute so im not expanding in it anytime soon haha. im only running the mono block and the speakers off a 4 channel bridged. but seriously got any ideas about this sub? im dying with out bass. its like torture.
If you know your may around electronics you could always open it up and see what you find. It could be a bad solder or something. DO NOT OPEN IT if you are not confident around electronics though!! I have 'Blowen up' one of my amps 3-times. And each time fixed/changed something to get it back. But also have had amps that straight up died with no internal visible reason. RIP/
yeah im not doing that haha. didnt pay enough attention to that at school. i cant see any burn marks or loose items or obviously bad parts in the amp but. the bottom of it is clear perspex so ive already looked at that side of things aswell haha.
LOL @ skool comment. WOW, Clear perspex bottom is pretty cool. That will have given you a good idea that nothing major has given up the ghost. Have you checked all your wiring connections, and maybe the cables themselves. everything from power to RCA's to signal, to speaker. It could be as simple as a loose connection or bad terminal.
absolutely everything haha. stripped my interior appart to check all my power and rca and remote. ground is still firm and hasnt moved all since i put everything in. theres a serious ghost hiding in this mother ####er thats for sure. seriously cant think of anything at all other then something in the amp.
