Hi guys, I know it's not car audio but I thought this would be the best place to post it. I have a pair of Yamaha S215V club series cabinets. Each has 2x 15" woofers in them. I power these with a Crown XTi2000 power amplifier. When I turn the amplifer off (no signal running) I get a slight pop sound. Anyone know what this could be? I've read its the capacitors discharging.... I'm just not too sure. Anyone experience this before? Potential damage?
Ive had the same problem with my car subs. poping when they power up and when you power it down, the way i fixed it is buy a remote delay switch cost about $20-$30. don't know if it would work on a dj set up but it worked on my system.
Problem numero uno Crowns are noturious for this and yes, it most LIKELY is the capacitors. The ideal thing to do would be to turn the amplifiers down before switching them off. Usually most Pro Audio gear tells you to do this anyway in the operators manual. And yes, it can be damaging to the speakers dependant upon the voltage that is being pushed out of the amplifier when it happens.
Hi, thanks for your reply. I turn the attenuators all the way down before switching my stuff off but it still does it... I don't think it's a pop sound like I had once before... when I rewired my cable to bridge. Hmmm .... It's just hard to get someone to have a look at my gear .... because I use a desktop PC and not a laptop and each of my speakers weighs 50kgs .... and they dont fit in my car :whistling
yes and no. The poping is caused by a power surge. It happens on all speakers (not crappy home speakers lol) wen u cut the power and dont wind down the amps. Also it will only damage the speaker/sub if its really loud. But if its popen wen u have turned down the amps then u got a problem. Ps only 50kgs thats nothin. My dads got some martins that probley wont even fit in ur house. They weigh ruffley 350kgs:thumbsup: each:yeah:
Dang!! they pretty fricken heavy!! what the hell are they? you got a model number? I would love to see what they are. How many woofers lol? I've got 2x 15inch woofers and a 2" horn in each of my cabs and that weighs 50Kgs.... your dads like 7 times heavier than mine lol .... 14x woofers haha XD
they used 2 b the speakers that were in the night club at the hotel crown in victor harbor. But then it closed down and somehow my dad scored half of it. there is 2 15'' subwoofers in each sub box(2 boxes) and then there is mids(x2) and highs(x2). I think they r martins, I wouldnt have a clue wat the model number is but sht they r loud. 2 transport them u need 2 vans or my dads toyota prado and his massive bus trailer. Ill get some piccys of them 2moro. oh and ur answer 2 14x woofers is not quite. In the full set there is only 8 subs lol:yeah:
