I didn't want to be flamed and dig up my old thread, but have another question about sump bolts for a VR 5.0L

I've been given 2 thread sizes, 1.75mm by Autobarn and 1.5mm by Supercheap (though the guy said its the same as a V6 one). Which one is right, as I don't want to strip the thread in the sump. :bang:

Taking it out and driving there and comparing it isn't really an option for me.

Has anyone bought one and remember what size they got?

Cheers.

You mean just the local holden dealer?

Yup - I've only visited them once and they gave me the wrong part but the theory is that they should know everything about your car.
I've just re-read your posts and am a bit confused (excuse=I'm old)...do you mean sump bolts that hold the sump to the block or the sump plug which drains the oil? Also your old thread said VR-VT's had 2 sizes of sump bolts and 12mm is 4.99 and 25mm is 14.99 VR-VS was luck of the draw apparently and VT's changed half way through.
yet you now say I'm after if the thread is 1.75mm or 1.5mm, I know where to get them from but 2 different places have given me 2 different sizes
Please note that I'm not nit-picking, just trying to help.

Na its all good mate, 12mm & 25mm bolt was the head of the bolt, 1.5 and 1.75 is the threads on the bolt. (although I have no idea what these auto places are on about unless they gave me the 12&25 sizes for the ones to put the sump on, and I use a 19mm socket to take the bolt out.......)

Also I mean the bolt that you remove to drain the oil.

I might just have to dump the oil and take it in

Rang the Holden dealer.
In VR 5.0L's Engine number up to vu616796 = 1.5mm
Anything after that is 1.75mm (ie vu617796)
(I'm 99% sure that's what he said)
Mines vu626*** So I guess I have the 1.75mm one.

Maybe this info can be put up somewhere for a reference, might help someone else out.
