I have this knock sound when braking coming from the front assembly somewhere. Normally goes clunk 2-3 times when I brake, sometimes when I turn but not always.
I have replaced the rotors and pads, radius rod bushes, replaced the link bars/bushes from strut to stabiliser bars, replaced stabiliser bar bushes. Having got frustrated I went to Ultratune and they said I need to replace the control arm and castor bushes as the wheels are moving about 1 inch when I brake, hence the clunk.

So I went ahead and did the work suggested and guess what, still clunking.:bang:

I can feel the knock through the floor as well as the pedal so figured it must be one of the above, but no luck. Could it be the 4 bolts that mount the crossmember to the chassis?

    Can anybody offer any advice?

    Thanking you in advance.

If it clunks when turning then it should be the link pin.

Caster bushes and radius rod bushes are the same thing. Sometimes the K frame bolts do come loose, it won't hurt to run a spanner over them. Play in the rack will also make it clunk.

I had a Ford once with a similar problem, turned out to be the shocks clicking, replaced and the noise went away ... good luck

me mums vn had the same proble so we replaced every rubber on the front and the only one that was stuffed was the control arm to chasis bush (left side) ..........the clunk/bag was pretty bad lol............however this was in a vn so i would guess it would be the same as a vr/s

I thought I did, but may have missed it. The dude at Pedders said they never go though, have you had to replace them before?

I'm so confused, the guy at Ultratune said the caster bushes were the ball joints on the wheel end of the control arms, not the bushes on the radius rods...

Is the K - frame the term used for the whole front crossmember?
I'm starting to think maybe steering rack too, but I have also done the tirods now as well.

The radius rod and the caster rod are the same thing. The control arm goes from the K frame to the bottom of the strut. The K frame is the whole front cross member thing, because when you look at it, it is shaped like a K.

Would you happen to know the nut size for the K frame bolts?
I'm gonna have to go out and buy the right size tube socket.

my bearing plates at the top of the strut are stuffed. When you push down on the front of the car u can hear it / feel it. Also gives feedback through the accelerator pedal and sometimes when u turn. especially going over bumps.

its not really a clunk sound, its hard to explain.

Put your finger on the top nut of the strut as you push the car down, if you can feel it through the nut then chances are the strut is buggered. The only way to fix it is replace it.
