Has anyone else experienced corrosion on the top of the motor on the SV6?

Mine has a big bit near the firewall on the top of the motor and the car is at Holden getting its 3000km inspection today and Holden is saying it is normal which I find hard to believe.

If you are talking about the bare metal bits on the engine showing surface rust, yes that is normal. A lot of new cars these days have unpainted surfaces on the engine and chassis to cut production costs.

I believe the part is called the plenum chamber where the air comes in to the motor. It is between the two plastic covers on top of the motor.

I will try and take a photo tonight.

its more or less a stain from water sitting/getting on it mainly while hot, it will come off with degreaser and a pressure clean,
