While having the 30K service done on my SV6 Manual, a salesman has told me that after the July orders are submitted, there will be no more manuals able to be ordered for the SV6. I was intending to buy one towards the end of production, so am very unimpressed if this is true. Current car is one year old, so too early to buy yet. Anyone able to confirm or deny this advice?
Yep. I can confirm that GM are adding two more cylinders and will call it the "SS". I think it should sell really well.
Turbo V6 in the VF. Now that would be an appetizer for the 2018 VG (whatever) front wheel drive Commodore built totally by robots.
Wonder what is the real reason why the Manuals are being scrapped. I do know that Auto cars are more reliable only because a few manuals have screwed their clutch's up. I remember the days if I'm correct when the VT (I think it was, could be wrong) the V8 went from the 308 Aussie motor (series 1)to the first of the Gen 3 LS1's for the Series 2 of the model. HSV Car owners Spewed because a one wheel spinner Executive had more power than the earlier model HSV. You never know the last of the VF's built here in Australia might have the New 3.6L V6 twin Turbo donk in it. No this is a Horrible rumor I've heard from a sacked employee but at the same time it could be possible be true.
I vote the two most likely reasons as: (a) emissions - easier to get an auto to meet new rules (b) sales - they're not selling many manual 6's at all
The Auto VF with paddle shifter is great plus the ability to start the car whilst away from it does come in handy sometimes and none of these can be used in a Manual car. Your two reasons make more sense as for me auto's for the six and Manuals for the V8 are the way to go.
So much fun to speculate, but if it is the 250kw LGX 3.6, they are using a tremec 6sp behind it in the Camaro and not the Aisin (currently used in the VF). They also use an 8sp Auto, so maybe redevelopment for it was palatable but not for the engine and both gearboxes....... either way seems like too much work for 1 model year !
I am hearing some turbo talk too from my connections but dont really want to speak up just yet because nothing has been confirmed
It's pitty if the manual does die. The Holden came into this world as a 6 Cylinder Manual sedan. I recon the last should also be a 6 Cylinder Manual Sedan.
Sorry to re-open this thread to those not interested in the V6. Seeking to keep a Commodore, which for me means an SV6 manual, as long as possible, I decided to search stock (new and demo) at every Holden dealer in Australia in January. I found that there were 15 left in all of Australia. I have ended up buying one in Queensland - don't talk to me about buying a car in a different state to your permanent address. The numbers have continued to drop till now there are five demo's and two new left as far as I can tell. Two of them are 2015 MY16's in Mount Isa. If I had the cash, I would buy another and park it for the future. That situation might arise later in the year, but there probably won't be any left by then.
Of the 18 prople left in Australia who would choose a manual gearbox, 16 want an LS3 car ... don't see it's particularly worth ferreting-away 6cyl manual Commodes.
Aren't the six cylinder manual gearboxes sourced from Japan as well? I know they are different to the standard Tremec used in the V8's. Aisin rings a bell for some reason.
I would not be doing it for "value/worth" reasons. I would just like to be able to drive such a car until my time runs out. Two of them should be able to keep me going for years.
Anyone looking for an SV6 manual, There is a blue one advertised on Carsales down in Wollongong way with about 6,700 Km on it. Sounds like now will be about the last opportunity to get an almost new SV6 manual. https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/details/Holden-Commodore-2016/OAG-AD-14238086/?Cr=1
