- 2004 Pontiac GTO 5.7 LS1 6 speed
I finally wrapped up the JHP gauge install. Part of this project was to swap the instrument cluster overlay to match my gauges. Swapping a 2005 GTO cluster into my 2004 GTO would have been very difficult and time consuming and I didn't want the mileage screwed with. So I bought a used 2005 cluster on eBay for $60 USD.
I took the cluster apart and removed the needles and overlay. Then, I removed the cluster from my car and did the swap. Before I pulled the cluster, I made note of the needle positions so I could get them back on accurately, or close to it. Very easy swap. After that, it was a matter of programming my cluster for the higher red line of the 2005 overlay, and while I was in there, I turned the factory shift light on and set the RPMs for it and I rescaled the temperature gauge to act more like a real gauge. The program is available for free... VZClusterMod is it and it on LS1GTO dot com. All you need to do is buy a cable or make your own, download the program and have at it.

Now everything matches and the shift light is pretty cool. I'd like to fiddle with the cluster a little more and turn the lighting intensity up a bit. There are things you can do but what I have done is the most important to me.
