Thought I'd update lights saga.

My 3800k H9's arrived from the US today.

Tried them tonight and they're a big improvement on the 4750k.

It's a reasonable compromise between "whiter" high beam and clarity of vision.

You have the link to what headlight globes you bought?

Sure, I bought them from formula-j87 (http://formulaj87.com/DOT-Super-White-3800K_c_31.html)

You have a choice of direct or ebay.

Direct is cheaper and he's reliable so whatever you're comfortable with.

edit: I see that Powerbulbs as in my first post have 20% off everything. Makes the Crystal Visons a bargain (compared to oz prices)

When installing the CV globes did you need to make any adjustments. I was talking to a local auto electrician about globe upgrades and he recommended CV globes but indicated while they provided more light and depth they had a shorter life compared with standard globes. He indicated that this was due to the additional heat generated and that they had a silver top which gave them the better performance but shorter life. I checked on the Phillips site and yes their data sheet indicates that CV globes have 200-300 hours of life. For my usage at 200 hours equates to about one year which makes these globes expensive.

Also regarding your CV upgrade were they the 100% or the 130% version.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I had both high and low beam CVs in my G6E for about 4 years. I go for whatever the maximum light is.

My usage is mainly long trips so not a lot of on/off, on/off stuff but lots of heat and rough roads. On trips I drove with headlights on all the time (no DRLs).

I also had CVs in my previous Fairmont Ghia. Same sort of usage.

To this point I haven't had to replace a blown globe.

I guess it's a cost vs benefit kind of thing. I like the extra light and even had I have had to replace globes along the way I'd continue using them.

You might consider that even if you did replace them yearly it'd cost less than a tank of petrol (buying from Powerbulbs and Formula-J87).

I ended up going with the Crystal Vision for the low beam and the White Vision for the high beam.
Couldn't be happier with the look & clarity which my headlights give me now.

Only issue was getting to the low beams as I have big fat hands/fingers

I went with Phillips Crystal Vision low beam globe, philips silver vision front / rear indicator globes and Osram silver indicator globes for the fender vent along with DRL dimmer mod. Very happy with the look.

I've seen the short life span of the CV's a common complaint... I notice that Holden recommend LL globes, I assume because of the difficulty of getting to them!

Must be pot luck and or application . I had them in my Subaru for around 5 or so years.. if you remove the wheel and peel back the wheel house liner its pretty easy to get to on the commodore.
