Ok got a bit of a problem with my t5 in my vs ute Look at map below \/\/\/ Story goes , driving down a straight road about 60-70kpm heading towards a roundabout (the type you go onto to get onto a feeway) so generally 90% time dont have to slow down/stop/shift into 1st . the speed limit is around 30-40 at the round about so I go around the round-about in 2nd. The car stays in second intill the car gets to the end of the round about then , sorta just goes into Neutral and looses revs . and when you press the accelerator it just revs and does nothing So what I do is like shift into N pump the clutch a few times then back into second and it goes fine again ?? So im thinking im up for a new clutch (Im hoping) Also it only happens when I go round this type of round abouts , never anywhere else so its got me stuffed . And to make it more weird it only happens 1 out 3 times what are peoples thoughts
check if your clutch is slipping by cruising along at 60 in 3rd and nail it. if its sad it will slip. being a T5 (cable operated) pumping the pedal wont make any difference. Are you sure that the gearstick isnt sneaking out of gear at that point? Try holding the lever in 2nd and see what happens.
Ok took it for a drive just before , Did the cruise at 60 in 3rd then boot it and yeh , it didnt slip but it was a "slow" response to get up and boogie . like normally in any other gear just boot it anytime and it will go so i know its not the car/engine at fault and tryed recreating the going round the round about while physically holding 2nd in place and it still did it . So now im guessing I need a new clutch lol . Anyone recomend a brand or type cheers ? Im pretty sure this one has a Exeddy clutch in it . Also what type of cash will i be looking at to get this fixed cheers!
When you do the 3rd gear test it will feel a bit sluggish for a reason. It's to load up the drivetrain. if a clutch is suffering this will usually be the point where it will show signs, just as the torque is feeding thru. This is a bit left of field.. but, have you taken much notice of how much fuel is in the tank when you turn said corner? when i first got my p's way back my VP would cut out momentarilly (feels like its lost power for a sec) on hard cornering, only right. turns out it was a combo of cracked return line and corroded swirl pot in the tank.
It felt like you put your foot down and it was slowly building up speed then a few seconds in would go a bit more faster , not like a foot down and instant response and off like a rocket feeling . Anyways went and tryed your trick , got about $30 of 98 fuel and was sitting just under 1/2 tank full . and it no longer did the cutting out in 2nd around a round about turning right . and it was faster to respond to the foot down in 60 test , So now im more leaning towards the fuel tank problem . Anyone know how to/ how much it would cost to get a new swirl pot/return line fitted in ?
Any repairs to the tank will cost bulk $$$. a mate of mine had his cut open etc and was just about more value in fitting a fuel cell lol. Prob work pulling the tank out first and checking it, u should be able to see if the internal return line has come off. If the tank is internally corroded you're better off finding a replacement
