    Another thread, another prob.

91 VN Berlina cluster came to me with no tacho.

Fuel guage on the left, speedo in the middle and temp on the right..

Wanting to install a tacho, thought i'd go the easy way around and chuck in a cluster with a tacho.

First go I rewound the k's, and all worked except for the speedo :p
Another cluster later, rewound the k's, all works.

New cluster has tacho on left, speed in middle, fuel and temp on the right.

This cluster is from a VP V6 and to my knowledge, it all works fine. I haven't had to bash my dash in AGGGESS :p Although, im being told my tacho isn't correct. How would I check this?

She idles at around 1500 and hits around 3500-4000 at top speed. When my gear box blew a few weeks back, the tacho was going MAD, which leads me to belive, ITS WORKING.

So guys, from your knowledge, is tacho installation as easy as chucking in another dash?? The looms all matched up fine.. Or would there be a wiring issue here.....

    Thanks heaps :)

ok normal is about 8-900rpm idle.
take the plastic of the front and push the needle around a little.
on the engine harness in the enginebay is a little plug the goes to nothing back very close to the firewall i was told this is the taco pickup if you want to check.

Lol brinnahh, every time you post it makes me appreciate my car more... :p

But on a more helpful note, Tacho installation "should" be as easy as putting in an L2 dash, the wiring is all the same and should all be hooked up already at the engine.

Also, like centy said, your needle may be misaligned. Does it sit on 0 with the car off?

Yer it's defintly out of wack mate, my vp idles at 850-900 rpm, you say your idles reads 1500, thats what my car does doing 100-110 km/h. You should be able to tell though if it's out because if your cars idling at 1500 it will be alot louder than normal. I'd say it's just the tacho itself, one of my mates had similar problem, he just brought anouther cluster and shes all good now, has been for about 12 months.
