    hey all,

my brother has a vr and the brake lights dont work at all but when you put the headlights on the light on the back parcel shelf lights up too then push the brakes and the brake lights come on like they should and the parcel shelf light turns off.

    soo...

    no headlights= no brake lights

head lights on=parcel shelf light on when it shouldnt be and brakes lights then work but parcel shelf light then turns off

    hope that makes sense.
    any help appreciated.

haha havent heard that one before, has he changed any globes lately or anything like that? but check that your trailor plug is intact correctly and that no wires are touching etc, and also check in the boot at the very back on the drivers side behind the carpet, make sure none of those wires are making contact either.

Try swapping the park lamp relay, see if that solves your problem.

he has just brought the car and only just noticed it, havent chanded the globes yet but they are all good and theres no trailor plug and we've gone ove the wiring and everything looks ok.

have to try what kopper69 said and see how we go i guess, was thinking the brake light switch behind the brake pedal might be stuffed but i dont think it would cause that sorta problem

It could also be a bad earth or lamp socket in one of the tail lights...they can corrode badly.

could be a few things, loom, corrosion, globe.. remove the globes from one side and test, then repeat with the other side.. should point u to the side thats faulty, then u can test globe by globe till u find out if its the globe or the socket. i would check the globe elements closely, my cusin had the same problem, ended up being the parker element overhang, that wrapped itself round the stop element inside the globe.

troubleshoot it, side by side, then globe by globe. post back what u find.
