Right, now I'm with you.

If I'm not mistaken the center of the driveshaft goes through the center of the rubber donut coupling that bush and sits over that spigot. Take a look at the end of the drive shaft and see if there is anything in there.

This might assist but it doesn't have a good picture of what you are after.

I think we only need one thread on this topic, threads merged.

Do you have access to measuring tools?

Have you tried a specialist drive shaft shop?

If nobody can supply said bush than you might have to get a local machine shop to make something. It's nothing special really, a good machinist will knock something up out of bronze stock in about an hour.

If I am reading that Holden workshop document correctly that immortality posted then the VT 5.0L V8 front rubber coupling to suit the Getrag 290 box does not use a centering bush. The rubber coupling is claimed to be 'hydraulically dampened' and the drawing depicts it as being a solid disc with no hole in the centre. Perhaps that is why the only reference to a centering bush that can only be found is for the V6.

They are commonly called doghnuts.
If l remember correctly there 3 different sizes.
They replaced the universals on the tailshaft.
Vt s1 has the universals. vt s2 on, has the doghnuts.

I could be wrong but maybe your tailshaft is not standard?

I believe the Getrag transmissions used the rubber "donut" coupling to start with but only at the transmission end. The PDF on the previous page shows the different drive shafts used on the original VT models.

Sorry yes you are correct.
First pic is. Gear box And I’m assuming the part that I circled is the centring bush
the first section of the bush is plastic And then further in brass, When I slide the tail shaft up into it . there is movement so it wouldn’t be sitting Centre.
the second picture is the tail shaft.
Third picture is a centring bush I found on the Hardie Spicer website for a V8 Commodore,
